BE SEEN & HEARD ASSEMBLIES
On Wednesday, Be Seen & Heard Assemblies will be held at Alta Vista. The schedule is as follows:
- 8:25-8:55 Kindergarten & First Grade (Cafeteria)
- 9:05-9:35 Third Grade (Cafeteria)
- 9:45-10:15 Second Grade (Cafeteria)
- 10:55-11:25 Fifth Grade (MakerSpace)
- 11:30-12:00 (MakerSpace)
The schedule is very tight, so it's important that everyone is on-time.
Although we tried to minimize the impact on other schedules, there are some changes that will need to be made:
Phillips - Music moves to Wednesday @ 11:20
Landolt - Marika will attend the assemblies and Hannah will work with the rest of the students
Landolt - Music will be 3 grade only
Yu - Music moves to Wednesday @ 8:45
Kindergarten - Let me know what PE times work best for you.
A couple more notes:
- If you have any parents who are opting out, please let us know and send the student to the office on your way to the cafeteria/MakerSpace.
- Caitlin and Megan will be sitting in on each assembly. If you hear anything unexpected from students following the assembly, please let us know.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Dear Alta Vista Teachers,
Please take a few minutes to read this e-mail about our upcoming book fair. We have a few changes to the teacher preview and teacher wish list. There is also an additional payment option by scholastic that will change how the golden tickets should be distributed in the classroom, and a fun way for you to get your classroom excited about the book fair!
As you may know, the Fall Book Fair is quickly approaching. Set up will be on Wednesday, October 16th and open hours are Thursday, October 17th through Wednesday, October 23rd. We will be open during the Walk-a-thon, October 19th from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Here are a few important notes:
1. Scholastic flyers will be in your boxes on Wednesday, October 9th to be included in the Wednesday envelopes. Please let me know if you would like us to bring them directly to you in your classroom.
2. Classroom and Teacher Wish List
We encourage you to come to the book fair at a convenient time* to complete your classroom book donation wish lists. Parents and students LOVE to buy books for your classrooms and your wish lists are extremely helpful. Every teacher who completes their wish list by Thursday, October 17th at 2:00pm will 1.) be entered into a raffle to win 1 of 4 gift cards! 2.) be given a $5 off a $20 purchase coupon! Please turn in your wish lists to the book fair by placing them into your designated pocket on the wish list board.
*The book fair will be ready for teacher preview anytime after set up on Wednesday morning, October 16th. Please enter only through the side door of the cafeteria that is used for the entrance to the book fair.
3. $100 Scholastic Dollars For Your Classroom!!
Each teacher will receive $100 in Scholastic Dollars to make book fair purchases for your classrooms. You may visit the book fair from October 16th-October 23rd at your convenience to make your purchases. Please do not take the books until we have recorded them in the register. This is necessary for inventory purposes and to track the amount of Scholastic Dollars Alta Vista receives from each fair. If you come during off hours, please put your selected books on the table near the register so we can record the purchase. We will place them in your box once they've been recorded. They will then be yours for your class to enjoy!

5. Kindergarten classes, we are opening at 1:40pm on Friday, October 18th to accommodate your dismissal schedule.
6. Lunch (golden) tickets will be in your boxes on Monday, October 14th for you to distribute to students who bring money or have eWallet* (eWallets do not have to be printed. If a student tells you they have eWallet, please give them a golden ticket). In order to control crowds and to allow students to return to class timely, we are once again implementing grade level shopping.
*eWallet - Our Book Fair has a new digital payment option - It’s a secure, cash-free way to shop the book fair. Student eWallets are looked up at the book fair using the student's name, grade, or teacher; eWallets do not have to be printed or presented to a cashier.
Grades 1st, 3rd and 5th may shop during lunch on Thursday, October 17th.
Grades 2nd and 4th may shop during lunch on Friday, October 18th.
All grades may shop Monday through Wednesday.
* Students with a ticket may bring a friend.
