Mr. Middleton's Sunday Message
09/18/2022
Picture Retake Day!
You can truly make a difference in a child’s literacy skills by volunteering just one hour of your time per week. It is fun and meaningful work.
This year your child’s school will once again benefit from our Sight Word Busters Service. It is a nonprofit organization that uses trained volunteers to help TK-2nd grade students master sight words (high frequency words) and improve their reading skills. They have been working in Placer County schools for the past 11 years and have run a successful program at Twelve Bridges Elementary since 2016. We are currently recruiting volunteers for the 2022/23 school year.
No prior experience is needed. We provide all of the training and support needed to participate. We place volunteers in the classrooms of their choice and can place multiple volunteers in the same classroom. Grandparents also make excellent volunteers. If you're not a first grade parent/grandparent but would like to help with this amazing program, please sign up, we would love your help. We are planning to volunteer in person this year, yay! Volunteers will need fingerprints (LiveScan) and a negative TB test (within the last 4 years) to work in the classrooms with students.
Training will be provided to anybody interested in helping at Twelve Bridges Elementary on Tuesday, October 4th from 8:30-10:30 in a classroom on the Twelve Bridges campus. Once you arrive at the school, please sign in and the office staff will direct you on where to go. If this training date/time doesn't work with your schedule, please see the website below where you can go to sign up for another training. Trainings must be done by Oct. 7th as we aim to begin working in the classrooms by Oct. 10. We look forward to working with you this year!
Additionally, we are still in need of a coordinator for the program. The main responsibilities of the Site Director:
· Collect the times and days of the week preferences from the teachers and place them on the Master Schedule.
· Communicate with all of the volunteers, once they are trained, to coordinate duty assignments.
· Assemble the Classroom Kits, with student books and clipboards
· Secure student lists from the teachers
· Write the names on the student books and the clipboards. This takes a long time.
· Deliver the kits to the classrooms
For more information, please visit our website at www.sightwordbusters.org or call Linda LoBue, at 530-887-8335 with any questions.
TIGER CREW --ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS NOW!
Tiger Crew is the student leadership team at Twelve Bridges Elementary. It is a way to encourage 4th and 5th grade students to engage in community work, give back to their school, and gain important leadership skills.
How does The Tiger Crew work?
4th and 5th graders are encouraged to apply for Tiger Crew. As part of Tiger Crew, students will be participating in many ongoing activities throughout the school year. These activities include:
announcements/school highlights through broadcasting and/or writing activities, fundraising, spirit days, conflict resolution, recess support, publicity for upcoming events, teacher helpers, and student representatives at PTC events.
Each student in Tiger Crew will receive a lanyard imprinted with the Tiger Crew logo and their name which they are responsible for. As they participate in various activities, each student receives “credit” (a small sticker) on the back of their name tag. To remain an active member, children are given goals to reach; this means they should have a certain amount of participation stickers at certain points throughout the year.
Tiger Crew students are asked to attend TWO monthly meetings. If your student is selected to be a part of the broadcasting crew, meetings will be WEEKLY. Meetings entail various leadership lessons and team building work, followed by planning for upcoming events at school.
Why is Tiger Crew important?
● Builds Character
● Helps children take ownership of their school
● Highlights positive leadership roles for children
● Can provide leadership opportunities for a broad range of students
● Builds a sense of community and school spirit
How can the students get involved?
✓ Each student interested in becoming a Tiger Crew member must submit an application
explaining why they believe they would be a good addition to the club and why they believe
they are qualified to take on this leadership role.
➢ Please click HERE to access the application.
✓ As part of the application, each student must have a recommendation from at least one
teacher.
✓ All completed forms must be submitted by Friday, 9/23/22.
✓ Paragraphs and teacher input will be taken into consideration to determine crew members.
Students will be notified by Tuesday, 9/27/22 as to whether or not they have been selected as
a Tiger Crew member.
If you have any questions about The Tiger Crew, please contact

ALTERNATE ROUTE TO HELP ALLEVIATE TRAFFIC
When using the drive-thru, you are able to continue straight to use the exit at Twelve Bridges park and turn right (turning left from there is not ideal). If you want to turn left, I suggest getting to the inside/passing lane and exiting out the main entrance to the school.
To access Twelve Bridges Drive using the drive-thru lane and the park exit, you would turn right from the park parking lot and then turn right again on Southcreek which will loop you around to Twelve Bridges Drive. If you use this route, you can turn left or right at the light and proceed to your destination. This could help make traffic move more quickly.
See the map below for the route.
PROCEDURE FOR FRONT OF SCHOOL PICK-UP/DROP-OFF
* Parking lot by the park is a 2-way road. NO parking along the curb. You MAY use the parking spaces in the parking lot but MUST use the exit by the park ONLY. * There are 2 lanes, a passing lane for those pulling through OR who are filling in an empty spot in the pick-up/drop-off line, as well as a pick-up/drop-off lane.
Our procedures are similar to the airport. If the car in front of you is stopped and picking-up/dropping-off and there is space in front of them, use the passing lane to go around them and pull-in.
* Students may only be picked-up/dropped-off from the far right lane along the yellow curb.
* When you enter the school parking lot, please make sure your student(s) have their backpack(s) and are ready to get out of the vehicle. Please remain inside your vehicle at all times while in the pick-up/drop-off lane.
* Please pull all the forward and fill in any gaps between cars. We have staff out front to greet students and ensure they make their way through the front gate.
* When using the front of the school area you can now choose to use the main exit and go straight or left OR you can proceed down the road by the park and exit and turn right or left at that exit.
Important tips and reminders:
* The side drive thru (off of Twelve Bridges Drive) is for our bus, TK and kinder students in Mrs. London/Sanchez’s class. No other students should be using this location unless they have a TK sibling.
* The back gate entrance at the Arroyo Madrone cul-de-sac adjacent to our school will be open until 8:10 AM.
* Please note the Arroyo Madrone entrance is not for dropping off or picking up students by car, but rather for walkers and bike riders only.
* Parents must drop-off or pick up their children at the corner of Arroyo Madrone and Briarton as it is a much easier location from which to get in and out and does not cause traffic congestion for back gate neighbors
* If your student arrives at the gate after 8:10am they will need to come around to the front gate.
* WALK/RIDE BIKE!!! If you live a mile or less from school, we strongly encourage this. Many families choose to park in the nearby neighborhoods and then walk to school and that is also great.

EMERGENCY CARD UPDATE - REQUIRED
PLEASE NOTE THAT IT LOOKS DIFFERENT THAN LAST YEAR. FOLLOW THE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1
- Click HERE to access the Parent Portal
- If you've never created an online PowerSchool Parent Portal account, you will need to create an account now using information provided above.
- If you already have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, you can sign in using the email and password you chose when setting up your account and complete the Emergency Contact Update & Required Student Waivers. (You can use the same account to complete forms for multiple children).
STEP 2
- Sign in to the portal. Click on "Forms" on bottom left side of screen.
- Click on the "Enrollment" tab at the top
- Work through each form (5 total) to update all required information. Be sure to check boxes on the three authorization sections for Technology Use Agreement, Student Health Insurance, and Photo Release Forms. Once completed, click 'Submit'.
***Please note that failure to update your child’s emergency information and electronically sign the Student Waiver Forms may restrict them from participation in extracurricular activities, class field trips and use of technology during non-class time.***
For those that recently registered a new student to WPUSD, you do not need to complete this process, as it was done during the new student registration process. If you have not set up a Parent Portal account, you should have received an email from the District with detailed instructions on how to set up your account. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 916-645-6350.

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
If you need to report your student's absence you need to contact our attendance clerk, Maritza, with the reason for their absence. There are several ways to do this that are the most efficient ways: email: Mpisik@wpusd.org with your student's name and reason for absence (if they are sick you need to let us know what their symptoms are and for how long they have had them), respond to the email attendance alert via Parent Square OR the TBE app, or you can call the attendance message line directly at 916-434-5210. We have a very busy front office so if you could report your absence one of the ways above it would greatly help free up the phone lines for those needing to call. It's always a good idea to send a quick email to the teachers as well so they are aware of the absence.
For those students who are out sick: if they are going to be absent more than 2-3 days due to illness, please let us know so we can have you sign an "Independent Study" so the teacher can give them their class work so they don't get behind while they are absent.
TRAVEL STUDIES...WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!
If your student is going to be out of town and absent for a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 14 days, you will need to inform the front office of this absence no later than 1-2 weeks prior to leaving (the more time the better). Once the office has been informed, they will email you a travel study contract to electronically sign and will notify the teacher of the absence so they can get together all the work needed.
Teachers are very busy getting together needed work, so please be patient and give ample time before going on vacation.
*TRAVEL/INDEPENDENT STUDIES ARE NOT ALLOWED DURING THE FIRST 3 WEEKS OF SCHOOL OR LAST 3 WEEKS OF SCHOOL.
