The following are brief descriptions of the various roles and responsibilities on the PTA Board.

The following positions are considered the PTA Executive Board.

VP Leadership - Shadows the President to prepare for the following year of service, attends all HPTC meetings at Central Office, assists with summer registration, Back to School lunch for teachers/staff, Soup lunch in January for teachers/students, coordinates Bridge to Berry for 5th grade students

VP Financial (two) - Coordinates all fundraisers: Leave a Legacy, Back to School Bingo, Movie Night

VP Membership - Keeps membership records, coordinates both Fall and Kindergarten registration with help of administration, and creates carpool tags

VP Programs (two) - Coordinates Room Coordinators for teachers, Parent Night teacher meals, Newcomer’s Coffee in Fall, Teacher Appreciation Week, Stock the Classroom

VP Student Programs - Helps library coordinate Young Author's Week and book fairs, Bus Safety in fall, Red Ribbon Week, Field Day, Senior Walk

Treasurer - Responsible for PTA funds and budget, annual audit

Assistant Treasurer - Assist Treasurer

Recording Secretary - Records minutes of meetings and oversees office supplies

The following positions are appointed positions. These positions will be appointed by the President at a later date. These are not a part of the elected slate, per the PTA bylaws.

Corresponding Secretary - Manages PTA bulletin board, Sunshine Committee: notes, flowers, cards on behalf of the board

Parliamentarian - Advises on parliamentary procedure, Chairman of Nominating Committee, and Lost and Found

Communications Director - Manages Marquee information/calendar and Social Media postings

Volunteer Coordinators - Compiles volunteer list and recruits volunteers for front office, book fair and related PTA activities, helps administration with set up and volunteers for hearing and vision screening and school pictures.

Alabama Virtual Library
During library class, 2nd-5th graders have been learning about the Alabama Virtual Library (AVL). The AVL is a safe, reliable source of information, and it's lots of fun! Students can choose from the Britannica, KidsInfoBits, PebbleGo, or Explora databases. The AVL also has hundreds of Britannica eBooks. Students can even learn a new language with Pronunciator! The AVL is available to anyone who lives in Alabama. Check it out at


First grade students are learning how to use our library program, Destiny. They can explore Destiny at home by going to the main Greystone website, click on Resources, then Student, then Destiny Library Website, or use this link:

Erin's Law Information

Attention All Parents: To comply with Erin’s Law, HCS school counselors and administrators have created a plan to provide basic child sexual abuse prevention lessons for students. We have prepared a brief video that outlines plans for elementary, middle and high school levels. You will find more detailed information on HCS’s plan to implement Erin’s Law, including the option for your child to opt out of these lessons if you so choose (return by Feb. 1st).
