Congratulations to Brendalynn Delarosa for 3rd place in Goat Show!
IHS 11th grader Brendalynn Delarosa placed 3rd in both categories of competition in her very first goat show! As a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Meat Goat Showing Team at The Center for Advanced Technical Studies, she competed in the team's first show of the season in the Laurens County Meat Goat Show on Oct 9, 2021.
Students competed in 2 classes at the show. The first class is called Showmanship, in which the shower competes against other showers his or her age. The second class is called market. The purpose of this class is to judge the goat compared to other goats in the same weight class. A livestock project carries the expectation that it serves as a microcosm of the larger industry. With vaccinations, veterinary skills, and animal management practices, students learn to be exceptional observers of detail. They begin to understand that diagnosing and addressing potential disease situations are elements of grooming and showmanship.
Brendalynn is in the second year of the Veterinary Science program at The Center.
