Mark Your Calendars - Fall Parade October 29th at 9:15am

Fall Party Fun Day is Coming Soon!

Students are invited to wear a Halloween costume to school!! They will stay in costumes for part of their day, so it’s important to choose a costume that allows them to move freely and see clearly so they don’t miss out on any of the fun (and other school responsibilities.). Costumes should be interesting and not too scary. Please do not include blood, guts, gore or weapons of any kind. Accessories may stay at home and be saved for Halloween night trick-or-treating. (Don’t forget to coordinate your face mask!)

PTA room moms worked hard to create a party experience for each classroom. Thank you to all who have donated supplies to make this successful. Each classroom teacher will facilitate their own class party at some point during the day.

Wait, what? Adults aren’t coming inside to attend a party? Nope, we will not have visitors inside the building that day for the parties but visitors are invited to attend our parade! The parade will start at 9:15 am and will be held in the bus loop in the front of the school. Visitors are encouraged to park in the car loop parking lot, on the street and on the west side of the school. The parade will walk in the parking lot around the bus loop (same area where Walk a Thon took place this year). Visitors will stand on the side walk around the bus loop and watch for our little monsters, movie stars, scientists, musicians, scarecrows, animals, super heroes, creators, book characters, princesses, toys and more to parade by. I can hardly wait! See you then!

4th Grade Visitor

To conclude the unit on Government, fourth-graders got to participate in a question-answer session with former De Soto Mayor Dave Anderson. (and Papa to Lilli, Drake and Ries Manson) He spoke about what the responsibilities are as a mayor, who the mayor works with, and how tax dollars can help make improvements in the city (such as the pool and parks). A great way to wrap up our unit of study!

SE Community Information

Seatbelt Enforcement Week

Next week, Oct 24th – 30th, will be a state-wide seatbelt enforcement campaign. Officers all over the state will be keeping an extra close eye out for people not wearing their seatbelts. I will also be in the parking lots and student pick-up lines throughout the week, handing out information and reminding parents and students to buckle up. Johnson County has been above average for seatbelt compliance and hopefully, it stays that way.

KS State Statue 8-2503 requires all occupants, not just the driver, to wear a seatbelt at all times. For more information:

Community Service

Community service hours should be tallied from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Attached you will find a form for tracking service hours. All service hours are due no later than Monday, April 4th this school year.

The definition of service under the President’s Volunteer Service Award program includes any activity that has a significant impact on meeting the needs of the community. Services that are paid for or carried out for a family member do not count towards service hours. Some examples of services include helping with community organizations, school-based programs, scouting services, or any effort to help others.

Students are responsible for keeping track of ALL of their community service hours including hours completed at Starside such as Comet Guard. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at Starside at 667-6270 ext. 2196 or e-mail me at mmispagel@usd232.org. Thank you for your support.
