Classroom News
1. Lunch with Your Child:
Our school is bursting at the seams so the cafeteria seating is limited. There is only one parent table so be aware that if you come, you may not have a seat. Due to county policy, parents CANNOT sit at the class table with their child.
2. Supplies:
We are in need of tissues, lysol wipes, erasers, and hand sanitizers. Thank you to everyone who has been donating items!
3. Homework
Homework sheets will be sent home Monday morning. I received many back this week so I am happy these are being well received!
4. Donors Choose
Mrs. Bassett, the art teacher, has set up two donor's choose projects for our artists this year, an early finishers center and an artists library to enhance our students' art experiences. I have linked information for her projects in here. I know she would love to have these projects funded for our artists! Here is the project page link.
Curriculum
Reading: In reading we will continue to look at text features and text structures. Students have learned that like architects, authors BUILD their nonfiction texts withe certain STRUCTURES and SUPPORTS. These are called nonfiction text structures, and they help the author build the text by connecting sentences and paragraphs in order to accomplish the author’s purpose for writing.
The text structures we will be looking at in third grade at Compare and Contract, Cause and Effect, and Sequence.
*Our Epic! Class code is pcl3865
Writing: Students will continue to working on Personal Narratives this coming week.
Spelling: You will find the spelling list attached to this Newsletter as well as on the homework. Students will continue to have their tests on Friday. They do have time to practice at school but home practice is also beneficial.
Math: We will continue our third Unit of Math this week, Stories in Addition and Subtraction. Students will be learning how to use number lines, landmark numbers, decomposition, and expanded form to add and subtract. If you are practicing at home, please try to use these methods. We will not go over the standard algorithm this year as a class. There are youtube videos and I can surely be a resource if you would like to learn more about these strategies. I have linked two youtube videos to go over Number Line and Expanded Form in case you are curious. You students can also show you how each of these work because they started using them in second grade.
