Hawks Happenings
February 1, 2019
February is here! We LOVE our parents and families!
Thank you for all you do to support our school! We are able to accomplish so much because of the generosity, support and encouragement of our families! From our PTO volunteers, community mentors, area churches and the Weaverville Police Department we have so many people working to make our school a wonderful place for your child to learn and grow! Thank you for sharing your hearts with us and allowing us to teach your children in a loving environment!
Exciting events are coming up! Our Favorite Book Character Day is right around the corner:
- How is your preparation for Book Character and Leadership Day going? Need an example? Your child may love the book Stellaluna and you may have some bat wings from a previous dress up experience. Then you are all set! Inform your child's classroom teacher that your child will dress up like Stellaluna and the book title is Stellaluna. Then your child will work at school to create a book report project that identifies Stellaluna's character traits and her 'Super-Powers'.
- Another idea would be if your child likes history, then they could pick Abraham Lincoln. If you don't already know of a book about him, you can have your child check out our Media Center or the local library for one. The book could be a nonfiction book about Abe Lincoln or perhaps the Magic Tree House Book #47 which is about Abe Lincoln. Then you will just help gather inexpensive items to create a costume! I hope this helps give you some ideas.
PBIS Rewards:
- Today is our 1st semester PBIS reward. Students will have an hour to celebrate meeting our school-wide goal with their grade level. All students who are eligible to participate will have 30 minutes of inflatable reward time and 30 minutes of fun time in the classrooms with a choice of activities. Thank you for supporting our efforts to help our students follow our HAWKS Leadership Expectations and demonstrate positive behaviors at all times.
Checking in on student academic growth:
- Next week our 4th grade students will participate in the ELA checkin on Tuesday. On Wednesday, 3rd and 4th grade students will participate in Math checkin. Remember that these are not graded but they provide wonderful feedback for our teachers and students.
- Wednesday is now the last day for middle of the year mClass reading assessments. Our teachers have been working hard to complete required assessments while still providing meaningful instruction and activities for all students. Soon you will receive a mClass Parent Report so you can check your child's growth.
Don't forget:
- Next Friday, February 8th is an Early Dismissal Day and school will be dismissed at 12:25.
- Last but not least, report cards went home yesterday so please check your child's bookbag if you haven't seen it yet.
Thanks for your continued support of Weaverville Elementary!
Student headphones are wearing out! Please ask your child if you need to replace their headphones. We have some loaners on hand but not enough for all students. Thank you!
Welcome to our new SRO Officer Reggie Ray!
The Town of Weaverville provides for the safety and security of our staff and students!
Our school staff would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Town of Weaverville and the Weaverville Police Department for making this possible. Student safety is our top priority and we appreciate being able to provide a high level of security through our partnership with Officer Ray!
Please remember to use Yost Street to access our car rider line even when picking up your child from an afterschool club. Thanks!
