Progress Reports from Your Firebird!

We believe that students should know the story of their learning. They should be able to talk about what they are doing in their class and be able to explain why they are doing well or not so hot. Keeping their progress on their mind is something that they don't then just forget about.

This week marks Week 7 the 1st Quarter of student progress reporting. You should be getting an email from your student and one of her/his teachers should be copied on the email. The teacher is included so if you have questions you have an immediate point of contact and the teacher can see that what has been sent home is accurate. That email will give you a progress report update of how things are going. Our students will send these emails approximately every 3rd, 5th, and 7th week with report cards then coming out after the 9th week. There should never be surprises when it comes to your child's progress so we are asking the kids to join in the process. If you do not hear from your student over the next week, please let me know so I can see why.

Car Line Reminders

We cannot stress the importance of our students' safety enough when it comes to car line. The system we have in place is tried and true and works well when everyone does their part. A few reminders that we need to come back to:

* Pull all the way around the car line to the supervisor in the road. Do not stop in the middle just because you see your child. They will make their way to you when the cars stop.

* We load as a group and leave as a group. We call Load and No More Loading. Your student should never advance to your vehicle while cars are moving.

* We dismiss at 3:15PM. We are seeing an increase in the number of students still at Fisher an hour or later from the time school gets out. Please make arrangements to get your student picked up BEFORE 4:00. Please know that students' ability to attend extracurricular events may be affected by repeated late pick-up's.

Birdwatchers Program at PJFMS

We believe that it takes the whole flock to watch over the nest. Two years ago our School Improvement Council started the Birdwatchers initiative as a way to bring parents and other family members as well as community volunteers into PJFMS during the morning holding, lunch periods, carlines, and even during regular class time to be an extra set of eyes and to interact with our students to remind them that we are here for them. We welcome Birdwatchers for whatever time we can have them so don't worry that you have to commit to full or even half days. We welcome folks even if it's for an hour. Birdwatchers MUST be Level 2 volunteers before they can join in. I have the information for that process linked HERE.

FISHER MIDDLE SCHOOL CALENDAR

Over the spring, our learning community collaborated and created a yearlong calendar that has ALL of the stuff you need on it. You can literally plan out for the whole school year! Please do not attempt to edit the events on the calendar.

Parent Back Pack

Parents are strongly encouraged to create a Backpack account for their children. Greenville County Schools uses Backpack to provide parents with the most recent news and information about our schools. The Backpack for Parents account also provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to:

  • View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
  • Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
  • Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
  • View their student's school and contact information
  • Manage parent and contact information for their students

Student Handbook

While parents and students are not technically required to sign a student handbook verification sheet, it must be common knowledge for our learning community that because people have access to the handbook they will be informed of the contents of the handbook. I will continue to leave the link to the student handbook in the weekly SMORE for access.
