The Goal
Every minute, every day, people suffer and lives are lost needlessly because of a lack of safe water and sanitation. Helping can end this global crisis and transform lives.
Why It started
Countries Water Aid Works In
In 2014, at the meeting of the Global Sanitation and Water for All partnership, they helped influence 20 governments to commit to achieving universal access to water and sanitation by 2030 and many others to commit to ending open defecation.
- East Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda.
- Southern Africa: Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia.
- West Africa: Burkina Faso, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone.
- Asia and Pacific: Bangladesh
Who does Water Aid help?
They help provide people with clean water, sanitation, and health care. (So far just in the countries above) They also provide every health care facility with clean running water and safe, and accessible toilets for men and women.
- 650 million people in the world don’t have access to water. They have reached so far 21 million people worldwide with safe water.
Big Contributors
- Congress allocated $400 million for WASH(an organization that helps support Water Aid)
- The Conrad N Hilton Foundation has awarded international non-profit WaterAid a total of $6.9 million, which will help 151,000 people access safe, clean water in health centers, schools and exceptionally poor communities in Ghana, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
- Jimmy Wales(picture below)- the founder of Wikipedia is helping contribute. Jimmy, The People’s Operator (TPO) gives customers the choice of directing 10% of their monthly mobile spend to nonprofits including WaterAid, at no extra cost to them.

Thanks to H&M Conscious Foundation, more than 350 teachers and students in Mahoba, India now have clean water & decent toilets at schools.

Water Aid Values
Water Aid values the overall worldwide access to safe water, hygiene, and health care to all countries in the world. Getting everyone access to water would mean there wouldn’t be much deaths to not having access to water wherever they are.
