  • Females are grey-toned with a small white patch behind the eye and a light underside.
  • The bufflehead is a combination or buffalo and head.
  • Winter in protected coastal waters.
  • They are migratory.
  • Buffleheads breed from southern Alaska through the forested areas of western Canada, central Ohio and easter Quebec.

  • Prefer to nest near lakes.


  • Often Remains with the same mate for years.
