Principal's Message
Dear Skyline Families,
Happy Thanksgiving. This is my third week at Skyline and I am really enjoying getting to know your students. I'm even learning many of their names. Thank you for introducing yourselves to me when you come into the school.
Today we had a Lockout Drill. We do this drill when there is an outside threat. All the outside entrances are locked and students remain inside the building and it is business as usual. The students and staff did an excellent job of implementing it today.
A word about attendance: One of the best predictors for students successfully graduating from high school is an attendance of at least 90% or better. I know with the holidays coming up and family obligations that sometimes students need to be out of school, but please remember that having students in the habit of being at school every day is very important.
Several parents have asked me about snow routes. Transportation stated that snow routes will be posted on their website after the Thanksgiving Holiday. Hopefully, we won't have a winter like we did a couple of years ago and won't need these routes.
Before I accepted this position, I made arrangements to go see my family on the East Coast from November 19th-29th. Melissa Dunn will be the person in charge while I'm gone. I look forward to returning to Skyline for the 2 weeks before winter break, December 3-14.
Again, I hope you have a happy and relaxing Thanksgiving Holiday. I know I am thankful for the opportunity to be here at Skyline.

Counselor's Corner
Hello Skyline families,
Today, Skyline students participated in a gratitude activity during our monthly family group. Research has shown that practicing gratitude improves both physical and psychological health. For our gratitude project, students filled out a gratitude leaf with the things in their life they are thankful for. The leaves will be displayed in our library stairway the week following conferences. Ask your student what they are thankful for, and check out our gratitude tree on your next visit to Skyline.
Have a wonderful week,
Amy Gervais

IB Corner
What a great time to be reflective and thankful. In Family Groups this morning, I was able to listen and make a list of all that my family group was thankful for. We all are very fortunate that our lists are as long as they are. I hope everyone enjoys the time with family and friends next week. I look forward to seeing all return on the 26th.

TAG Information
Conferences are a great time to talk with your child's teacher about their rate and level of learning. Teachers will have TAG nomination forms available if you decide to nominate your child for TAG, and I will be available as well. Please know that only K-3 students will test using the TAG test in reading and math. 4th-8th-grade students will qualify based on their SBAC scores. For intellectual TAG testing, all will use the TAG test. All forms must be turned into me by November 30. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Soup - Story - Celebration

Linnton Community Center
Join us for an evening of storytelling, art and soup as we celebrate the history of Linnton with art, music and storytelling. What was Linnton like for children in the early 1900's? Come hear of the adventures, challenges and mishaps of Linnton and its many hills.
Come share your ideas for the new banners on St. Helens Road. What images and worlds best describe our communities and how might we share that with people visiting our town? We'll have art materials to help you design an idea for highway banners as well as make signs for roads that pass through Forest Park and a contest for a Welcome to Linnton Billboard.
Please text 503-805-4680 if you can help with desserts or a crock pot of soup. Know a tale or a person who might share a story from long ago, please let us know so we can contact them.
