Bus Safety

Dear JFE Families,

Bus safety is of utmost importance. We have worked hard to ensure that students know the bus expectations.

During the 22-23 school year JFE has:

  • hosted a bus safety demonstration for all students
  • require that staff get on each bus daily to remind students of the expectations
  • make daily announcements reminding students of the bus safety procedures and expecations

We do all of these things in order to teach students the expectations for bus safety. Unfortunately we have continued to receive bus referrals from the transportation department due to students making poor and inappropriate choices on the bus. The most common behaviors reported on the bus:

  • students not staying seated
  • students inappropriately touching others (hitting, pushing, etc)
  • students being disrespectful to the driver when redirected

Parents, please help us out by talking with your child about bus expecations. Students on the bus are expected to:

  • stay seated and face forward
  • keep hands and feet to self (hands on laps, feet on floor)
  • talk in a quiet voice (no yelling)
  • pay attention to where the bus is so they are prepared to get off at their stop

We appreciate your help and continue to work to ensure the safety of our students on the bus. Thank you to the parents who have called and reported bus safety violations.

Stay SAFE!

SMART TAG Bus System to begin at JFE

Dear Jack Fields Elementary Families,

Beginning Monday, April 3, Jack Fields Elementary will participate in a new program offered through the Humble ISD Transportation Department called SMART tag. This new program is designed to increase safety and security for students riding a school bus to and from school.

All students will benefit from this program, whether or not they ride a bus daily. The use of the SMART tag system at this time will be to scan bus riders boarding or exiting a bus; however, we hope to utilize these identification cards for other uses such as field trips, cafeteria purchases, and library book check-outs. All students are being issued the cards now so that our school will be ready to expand the use of SMART tags in the future.

Students will be issued two SMART tag identification cards by the school. One will be kept in the classroom with the teacher and one will be tethered to the student’s backpack.

School buses will be equipped with a tablet that will read the ID cards to ensure that students load onto the correct bus and unload at the correct stop. While buses are in service, their location and ridership information are available to transportation department administrators to enable them to oversee all school bus activity.

The SMART tag identification cards are not tracking devices. The cards do not store any student information nor emit any student tracking information. The cards are only used to determine if a student has entered or exited a bus.

At a later date, a SMART tag Parent Portal will be made available. Some SMART tag Parent Portal features include:

  • SMART Alerts - parents can receive text messages when your child is approximately 10-15 minutes from their stop.
  • SMART Locate - parents can view a map showing the bus as their child is being transported.

Humble ISD Transportation is excited to offer this new program to Jack Fields Elementary School.

Birthday Treats!

BIRTHDAY TREATS!

If you want to celebrate your child on their birthday with supplying a treat for the class the following are acceptable:

  • cupcakes
  • brownie or cookie
  • ice cream from the cafeteria

Pizza or other items that consitute a meal are not allowed. We appreciate your help with this!

Daily Attendance Matters!

If your child is sick, fever, flu, etc, please do keep them home.

I wanted to take a moment to review our attendance policy and procedures for student absences. When a student is absent, you will need to provide a doctor’s note or a parent's note in order to excuse the absence. We will only allow 5 parent notes per semester to be excused. After the fifth parent note, the student will need to provide a doctor’s note, or the absence will be considered unexcused.

Once a student receives 3 Unexcused Absences, you will receive a warning letter from the District Attendance Processing Center.

Once 5 Unexcused Absences have been reached, your student will meet with the campus Student Support Team, and an email will be sent to the parent/guardian addressing steps you can take to improve your child’s attendance.

Once 8 Unexcused Absences have been reached, the administrator will meet with the student and request a meeting with the parent/ guardian to work on a plan to assist your child.

Other interventions that must be utilized before the district proceeds with court filings are 1) A referral to TRIAD and 2) A home visit conducted by the Humble ISD Truancy Officer. We have many students who meet the criteria of a court filing. Please do your best to attend school!

At 15 Unexcused Absences, a Court Filing will take place for you to appear with your student before a judge to discuss the student’s absences.

If special circumstances involve your child’s absences, please notify the campus
administrator and/or counselor as soon as possible. We want to work with you and your child in laying the educational foundation for a bright and successful future. School attendance is an integral part of that success.

Please feel free to refer to the Humble ISD Parent/Student Handbook 2022-2023, pages 40-45, for additional details on this policy.

According to the Texas Education Code, a student must be in attendance at least 90% of the days a class is offered in order to receive credit or a final grade for the course. Student attendance falling below this threshold, and other factors are strongly considered when deciding to promote a student to the next grade.

NO Door Dash or Other Deliveries for Students

Parents you are welcome to drop off lunch or join your child but do not send Door Dash please. We are not able to accept Door Dash for student meals.
