Week of May 4, 2020
A Note from the Principal
Dear Hill Families:
Happy First week of May. I hope that this messages finds you and your families staying healthy. The sunshine was wonderful to see this weekend, and hopefully you all had a chance to enjoy it.
This week has been designated as teacher and staff appreciation week. I am honored to work with such a dedicated group of educators and staff members and couldn't be more proud of all that they do to make Hill School the special place that it is. I'd like to thank our PTO officers for finding ways to celebrate our teachers while we're apart, and thank our families as well for all of your support, kind words, and/or contributions. Teachers are going to be spoiled this week. I know that we are facing challenging times, and I can't thank you enough for taking time out to recognize the work of our staff. I've included a few activities below that I would love to see our students and parents participate in. I also want to recognize our parents and families who have become our at home teachers, trying to find a balance of being mom, dad, caregiver, working from home, teaching at home, and everything that has been added to your plates. You've always been your child's number one teacher, but it's taken on a whole new meaning...thank you, thank you for all that you are doing. You are truly amazing. It certainly does take a village....
Please know that the District will continue to provide supplemental learning packets for those desiring hard copy materials. They will be available each week on Mondays at our Food Distribution sites and during the week at the Cardinal Center (in the plastic bin under the canopy). Links to the grade-level packets are also available online at http://www.davisonschools.org.
We will also continue our meal distribution on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week from 12:30 to 2 p.m. (or until food runs out) at Central, Gates, Siple, Hahn and DHS. Hard copy learning packets will be available at food distribution sites on Mondays and Wednesdays and at any time at the Cardinal Center (located in the bin under the canopy).
As a reminder, volunteers will now be placing food in your vehicle trunk or truck bed. This will further reduce contact between individuals. Please be prepared to open your trunk when the volunteer approaches your vehicle.
This Friday is "my future's so bright, I have to wear shades" sunglass day! If you'd like to submit a photo for our Hill Happenings newsletter, please email it to jburke@davisonschools.org with "Hill Happenings Photo" as the subject or Tweet it to Jen Burke @proud_principal with #YouveGotAFriendAtHill.
Lastly, our Week 7 "Family Check-In" is below. Feel free to fill it out to let us know how you are doing. The check-in is not required, but a simple way to touch base and let us know if there are ways we can help support your family.
Stay safe and healthy!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Burke, Proud Principal

Community Resources
DID YOU KNOW.........
The Genesee Intermediate School District has a Social-Emotional Resource phone line for parents who may need assistance. The phone number is 591-HELP (591- 4357). Students or parents can call this line and be connected with a licensed professional from the GISD (social workers, counselors, therapists) during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. Callers are able to leave a message after hours and will receive a call back during operational hours.
The licensed professional answering the call may assist in the following areas:
- Provide support to assist students and parents in dealing with stressful situations.
- Provide assistance in accessing resources and getting the help students/families need.
- Refer students/families to other local and county agencies for additional support. It is important to note that the intention of the phone line is not to provide telehealth therapy. If it is deemed that therapy may be needed, families will be assisted through a referral process.
In addition, families are also encouraged to reach out to their student's DCS counselor if they need assistance. While our staff members are not physically in the buildings, our counselors are checking their emails and continuing to assist families. If you need assistance in determining who your child's counselor is, please contact us by clicking on the Email icon on the upper right corner of our website, www.davisonschools.org.
