Raider Nation Staff Newsletter
Week of September 7, 2020
Here We Go!
Hello Raider Nation,
Happy Labor Day Raider Nation!
Here we go! In the last two weeks, you have been inundated with information, expectations, and requirements. Each of you rose to the challenge and fulfilled what was required of you -- true professionals! I, along with the other administrators, spent time this weekend taking a look at some of the outstanding work you all have done in preparation for your students. We are impressed with the quality of your orientation videos and the time you took to set up your modules. Thank you all for your hard work. I know your students will appreciate your efforts.
In my newsletter to parents, I articulated that the virtual learning environment of the spring is not what will experience this fall semester. I outlined the expectations of turning on video/audio when prompted. I referenced the return to our traditional grading system and most importantly, I outlined the attendance procedures. The schedule for our administrator meetings was published and you can find it below. Please remind your classes about the meetings tomorrow during each of your periods. Also, please feel free to reference these items to both students and parents as needed.
Just a reminder that the building will open at exactly 7:30 AM tomorrow for those wishing to teach remotely from their classroom. There will be a sign-in and masks provided. I have provided the slides regarding staff expectations if you plan to come in and teach from Atholton.
Once again, a huge thank you to those that helped with our textbook and materials distribution on Friday. We had almost 800 families come through in five hours to retrieve items. There remains only a small number of students who need their materials. Due to various extenuating circumstances, there are some students who will not be fully prepared for the virtual environment. For some, their Chromebooks have not arrived from HCPSS, for others, their family situation has prevented them from picking up their materials. As you encounter these situations, please inform the appropriate administrator who will follow-up with the family.
Below you will find the attachment regarding attendance record keeping. Please read and follow the procedures. Email Adrienne or Mona with any questions.
Our Back To School Night is this Thursday, September 10. There will be a video presentation preceding virtual classroom visits. The schedule is located in this slide presentation. We are changing our common codes to just one code per teacher to prevent you from having to log out and log back in. The formula will be AHS-teacherfirstinitiallastname-BTSN (AHS-RMotley-BTSN). Please be sure your orientation video, syllabus, expectations, and first week assignments are posted!! (We will hear about it -- trust me!)
Lastly, as we embark on this virtual journey this semester, please do not lose sight of the need to build community and connect with your students. Research abounds with studies that link student achievement with strong relationships. You have been provided the kernels from HCPSS to begin that relationship and community building. It is my hope and expectation that you get to know your students. Do not lose sight of our values -- Relationships, Achievement, Integrity, and Diversity.
I, along with dignitaries from HCPSS, may be popping in your virtual classrooms tomorrow and throughout the week. I just wanted to let you know in advance.
Enjoy the remainder of your holiday weekend! Did you join PTSA??
