Sandia Vista Elementary
November Newsletter
Thank you!
Dear Boomer Families:
We are so excited that we were able to host our first event at Sandia Vista a few weeks ago. Our Trunk or Treat event was a huge success. Thank you to the PTO, teachers, and staff, and most importantly our families for all your support. We had so much fun seeing everyone in person and we look forward to doing more when the weather warms up again!
We also wanted to express our gratitude to everyone who donated socks for our SOCKTOBER event. Because of your generosity, we were able to collect 1,106 pairs of socks that will be donated to a local closet for families in need. Thank you all so much!
The Scholastic Book Fair is taking place online this year. The Book Fair will run until November 14, 2021. Click here to visit the online store!
A few safety reminders for the month of November:
- We love our furry friends but please remember that animals are not allowed on campus. If you are picking up your child at the crosswalk, please refrain from bringing your pets with you.
- We can't stress the importance of safety at and around the school campus. We beg you to please use the crosswalks to cross the street. We have had reports of families crossing the street in front of cars and we don't want anyone to get hurt.
- Adams Street continues to be very congested causing our buses to be late to pick up and drop off students. Please do not park on Adams Street so your students can "walk" to and from school, use the car lane instead.
- If you plan to drive to drop students off please stay on the far right of the street so our staff can report to school on time.
- We still have mask requirements and have had an increase in cases. Please remind your students that they must bring a mask to school daily and it needs to be worn properly at all times while they are in the school building unless they are eating or drinking.
With Thunder Pride!

GRATITUDE
This month we’re talking about Gratitude! The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” The definition we are using in class is:
Gratitude: choosing to notice and appreciate things in our life, things in others, and things in the world.
Gratitude has been shown to be one of the number one ways to reduce anxiety, increase happiness, and improve relationships. Why? Because it is a matter of where we put our attention! Did you know we can only have one thought at once? Scarlett Lewis from the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement says it like this: We can’t have a grateful thought and an angry thought at the same time! So, over the course of the month, we will consistently practice putting our attention and our focus on Gratitude. We will think about how to be grateful even for challenges. We will talk about incredible artists and writers and thinkers who know the power of Gratitude in the world. We will encourage Gratitude towards our classmates, ourselves, and (of course) our family!
As you know, your school, Sandia Vista Elementary School is partnering with Square 1 Art to celebrate creativity and raise funds for the school! Coming home with your child is a custom catalog featuring your child's art. You will be able to order one-of-a-kind gifts and keepsakes
of your child's art! All orders are online only and due by November 10, 2021. Keepsakes will arrive in early December. Questions? Contact heather.armstrong@rrps.net
