A Message from Principal Boucher
SLPHS Families,
All of us at the high school are looking forward to returning students who selected it to a Modified Campus (hybrid) model beginning February 16. At the start of the school year, we established effective mitigation and contact strategies that we will reinstitute as we return to a Modified Campus model. Ensuring student and staff safety is a high priority as we look forward to being able to engage with students in person.
If your student is currently in the Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning) model by choice, they will remain in distance learning. We have and will receive requests to shift to Modified Campus from Extended Flexible Learning, however, those learning model and course changes may not be made until the start of trimester 3.
To support the transition to the Modified Campus model, we will use two days for planning required by the state. On February 10-11, there will be no school for students in the Modified Campus (hybrid) model only as teachers and staff prepare for the transition. Students in Extended Flexible Learning will continue with classes on these days.
There are a couple of additional dates to keep on your radar:
- February 12 – No school for all students. This day is set aside for teachers to use for communication with families, including conferences.
- February 15 – No school for all students. This is the President’s Day holiday.
- February 16 - School for students in the Hybrid Model, Day B - Last names M-Z
- February 18 - School for students in the Hybrid Model, Day A - Last names A-L
Our staff and students are in the middle of an extended spirit week. We’re wearing SLP gear and school colors through February 12 to show support for Panthers for a Purpose and the work underway to benefit the Panther Pantry. We hope you and your student will get involved as we come together to support the Weekend Food Pack program that helps students in need stay fed over weekends and breaks. For more information on the Panthers for a Purpose community initiative visit: Panthers for a Purpose.
Thank you as always for your partnership. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Upcoming Theater Opportunities for grades 9-12
The Spring Lake Park Schools Theater Department has many amazing upcoming theater opportunities for all students grades 9-12.
High School Spring Musical – SPAMALOT
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Featuring cows, killer rabbits, and French people. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.”
- Auditions: February 17, 3-5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center
- Performance dates: April 23-May 2, 2021.
Writing a 10-Minute Play Workshop (Online - students in grades 9-12 - starting February 13)
10-minute plays have become increasingly popular in the last decade, with theatres all over the world hosting 10-minute play festivals and playwriting competitions. We’ll explore playwriting through this popular form of dramaturgy - from creating an original concept to how to edit your script based on constructive criticism from your peers. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have at least the first draft of your new 10-minute play.
Outcomes: To build on older students’ theatre experience through a detailed study of playwriting and practical application by writing a 10-minute play. Sign up here.

Timing, time lead Spring Lake Park's Guzy to 400th career win
Spring Lake Park boys basketball head coach Grant Guzy won his 400th career game during the Panthers’ season opener last month.
“I am proud of getting to that many wins and being able to have a long coaching career, but it is a milestone that I share with the players who have played for me, the coaches that have coached with me, the youth program that provides us with those passionate players and the network of supporters who make our program one of the best boys basketball programs around,” says Grant.
