LCAP Surveys
Each year we will ask our CPA families to complete a survey related to the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) which identifies goals, measurements, and actions planned by CPA to improve student outcomes.
An important part of our LCAP is the input gathered from our school stakeholders. Equally important is input and involvement from parents. We want to encourage your input into the LCAP survey as it is an essential piece of our LCAP report and charter.

Since this year is being done a little differently, we want to make sure we celebrate all of your hard work and will be sharing out a newsletter spotlighting each student.

Kicking off a Month of Art Learning in April!
Art also challenges our mind to think in a different way and in so doing it helps students both academically and behaviorally. Look at this recent study on how art programs in school showed improved verbal, reading and math skills as well as critical thinking skills. With such a broad subject to explore this month, we will only be able to touch on a few disciplines in both fine arts and performing arts. We encourage you to find what interests and engages your student and explore beyond what is covered here.
This week we will be looking at drawing and painting. Drawing is believed to be one of the oldest forms of art. Before the written language, drawing was used as a form of communication depicting objects and abstract concepts. Over time, drawing included adding color, which slowly led to painting. As civilizations developed, so did drawing and painting. For a brief history of drawing timeline, click here. This week we are including some drawing and painting resources for your students to enjoy. As Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist.”

It's a Privilege
I’m cleaning out my files and shelves, stumbling across handmade birthday cards and handcrafts from my children when they were still children.
It feels like such a big responsibility to raise them and hope they choose to be decent people with good values.
There’s a lot I couldn’t control. There are mistakes I made. Sometimes I got it exactly right. And often: the difference between a mistake and a good decision were razor thin apart.
So much is the result of that word we don’t like: luck. Or serendipity. Or lack of foresight.
But I do know this. At the end of the day, I have never regretted being there for all of it. I hope you can hold onto that too—that being with your kids, now, as their parent-educator is a privilege, even when it’s hard."

Take the PSAT for Fun and Profit
Like the SAT, the PSAT is a college admission test overseen by the College Board®. It meets most state homeschool testing requirements and covers reading, writing, and math, but doesn't include an essay. The PSAT is a fairly inexpensive test compared to most annual assessments. In addition to being practice for the SAT, the PSAT can help you find a college, indicate career options your student might not have considered, and can lead to scholarships.
The complete name for the test is PSAT/NMSQT®, which stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The name can help you decipher the two functions of the PSAT. The first part, PSAT, means it's a practice test your child can take "for fun" to learn about the SAT. The second part, NMSQT, stands for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which means your child can take the test "for profit" as a junior. Either way can benefit your student.
Taking the PSAT for Fun
The name PSAT means the test is preliminary, practice, or pre-SAT. Your child can take the test for practice in 10th or 11th grade. I call this taking the test “for fun" because scores don't matter. The results are only for you, with no negative repercussions at all. You can use it as a starting point, before your child studies for the SAT and provide firsthand practice for the SAT. It is also used to estimate your child's SAT scores.

Enter the Plant Trackers Contest For Grades 3rd - 6th
Scholastic is providing this at-home educational opportunity including lesson plans and activities! Your child can become a plant detective—for a chance to win $1,000! To enter the contest, they will observe a plant, then draw and write about it. Whether scoping out evergreen plants or newly budding plants, the end of winter and beginning of spring are the perfect times to observe plant changes in the environment.
