Austin High School Maroon Band News
October 30, 2017 - November 3, 2017
Good Afternoon Austin High Band and Families,
I want to be sure that you all understand how important this upcoming opportunity is to our program. The Austin High Band has not been at the State level in almost 40 years!! I've already shared some of this with the students, that I was fortunate enough to attend a local high school that marched in the first 2 years of the Texas State Marching Contest. With the high quality of public school bands that we enjoy in Texas, it is a huge honor to reach that level.
This Saturday is the UIL Area D Contest to be held at Gupton Stadium in Leander ISD (adjacent to Vista Ridge HS). We drew the 20th position of 33 bands. We discussed the possibility of a Saturday morning rehearsal, but have decided that, since we have a game Friday night, we'll forego that practice so the students can sleep in and enjoy a relaxing morning. BUT WE NEED SOMETHING IN RETURN. WE NEED OUR FINAL TWO REHEARSALS THIS WEEK TO BE FULLY ATTENDED. We have been dealing with some student illnesses, but have also had some students either coming late or scheduling things on top of our previously-scheduled practices. Please make every effort to be at these last 2 practices this week which are tomorrow, and Friday morning. We have some specific areas to work on based on the comments from the judges, and need all of the students there to work on what we need to address.
Congratulations on reaching this incredible opportunity. The band has done a great job putting this show together, and we'd love to finish the season with a bang!! Thank you all for your continued support of our hard-working students!
Mr. Frock, Mr. Patenaude, and Mr. Fuhrman

How many instruments do you play? Which is your favorite?
I play saxophone and clarinet, and I'm trying to learn flute, but clarinet is definitely my favorite!
What’s your favorite band memory so far?
My favorite band memory so far is probably the trip we took to Galveston my freshman year because I had the chance to hang out with more people from band and make new close friends, plus Walker and I convinced Patenaude to ride the ferris wheel with us at Pleasure Pier, even though it was insanely windy and rainy.
What do you like to do for fun?
In my free time I really enjoy reading, listening to music, writing, and spending time with my mom, since she's basically my number one gossip buddy.
If you could have dinner with three people living or dead, who would you choose and why?
If I could have dinner with any three people, I would have dinner with Stephen King, because he's my favorite author, Amelia Earhart because I've always been interested in her story and I loved reading books about her when I was young, and Katherine Johnson, because her influential work with NASA, which she did despite discrimination, is really inspiring and brave to me.
What song is at the top of your playlist right now?
One of my favorite songs right now is Shot At The Night by The Killers.QUICK CHECK....
