Act on Bullying
A Presentation for Prairie Point Parents
Please join us!
- Does my child utilize social media appropriately?
- Am I effectively monitoring my child's use of social media and setting expectations for when and how often they are interacting online?
- How does my child's interaction on social media impact his/her relationship with peers?
- What exactly is SnapChat, Whisper, Yik-Yak, Instagram....?
- Did you know that over half of students who experience cyberbullying or witness it online do not report it to their parents or other adults?
A couple of years ago, we held a special parent presentation on cyberbullying by Officer Jeff Bean, creator and founder of Act on Bullying. As we continue to live in an increasing digital age, more and more of our students are engaging with peers online. We are seeing more of a significant impact in our schools, as early as 4th and 5th grade and sometimes sooner. We are pleased to be bringing back our presenter to speak with our students and parents in November. The parent presentation is open to ALL Prairie Point parents interested in attending. We hope that you are able make it.
The presentation will include:
- Creating awareness of what kids are really doing when they are on social networking sites, using their phones, and gaming online.
- Officer Bean is active on social networking sites and is monitoring kids online on a regular basis. This presentation takes an inside look at kids' online behavior, and shows parents what our children are saying and doing in the cyber world.
- This seminar also provides up to date, research-based information from teens on the topics of cyber-bullying, bullying, social networking and cell phone use.
- Officer Bean also discusses current Illinois state laws on bullying, and offers solutions and prevention ideas for parents.
Officer Bean received the 2012 Joseph T. Gurak Memorial "Juvenile Officer of the Year" award from the DuPage County Juvenile Officers' Association for his outstanding work with the youth of DuPage County. He is actively creating new and interactive ways to help educate our children and keep them safe.
We are hopeful that you are able to attend our event and that you will find the information valuable.
We would appreciate your RSVP by Friday, November 11, 2016 so that we are able to set up appropriately for the event. The content of this presentation is more adult focused, and will be beneficial in beginning or continuing the dialogue and creating awareness of what to support your child with at home. Looking forward to seeing you!
