How To Grow an Avocado Tree
A step by step introduction
The Materials
- A avocado seed carefully taken out from a fresh avocado without cutting it
- A see through cup filled with fresh water
- 3-4 tooth picks
- A pot for when it turns into a seedling
- Humus soil
Step One
First you poke the toothpicks into the avocado thirds or fourths then you put it into the cup that's full of water.Remember you must keep the top dry ,the top is pointy.
Step 2
Set the cup on a quiet windowsill with sunlight, change the water every 5 days - 1 week change the water regularly. To prevent mold bacteria and fungus growth which can doom your little avocado sprout.
Step 3
It usually takes up to 8 weeks and above to sprout. When it's two weeks and above it will dry out and form a crack on the top of the avocado, and the outer brown seed skin will go off.The crack will go all the way to the bottom of the avocado pit, and the crack at the bottom will sprout a tiny taproot, it will begin to grow. The taproot will grow longer and longer (and may branch), and eventually a small sprout will peek through the top of the avocado pit.Do not allow your taproot to dry out not grown doing it will be the end of your plant.
Step 4
When the stem is 6-7 inches long, cut it back to about 3 inches,When it hits 6-7 inches again, pot it up in a rich humus soil in an 8-10″ diameter pot. Avocados loves sun so the more sun the better.
step 5
Give the avocado tree really much soak, The soil should always be moist, but not saturated. Yellow leaves are a sign of over watering the plant so let the plant dry out for a few days.
step 6
When it grow to 12 inches tall you will need to take out the top two set leaves. This will help the plant to grow more shoots and leaves. When the plant grows another 6 inches pinch out the 2 newest sets of leaves on top.
step 7
The avocado leaves maybe will attract tiny aphids, here is how to get rid of them. Wash all of the aphids off the plant by spraying your plant with a hose, sink or shower. Once they are off, spray your plant with a mixture of water with and some dish washing liquid and a teaspoon of neem oil. This will keep aphids away from returning. Check your plant every 4 to 5 days and re-clean and spray when it's time.
step 8
When it's 45 degrees F, you have to bring them back in home in the fall or winter, before it gets cold.
