Welcome to 2nd grade!

The First week of School

Ready to Learn?

I am so happy to have you in my classroom this year. I am excited to work with each family. The first three days will be a little different. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will meet with each family to issue Chromebooks and teach you how to use them. While you are waiting for your chrome book, I have included the first three days of school activities here. Do not work ahead it spoils the fun! See you soon!

Monday

Reading: Below you will find a link of me reading a great little story called Lily's Purple Purse. Before you listen to the story find the paper bag that came in the Monday packet that you picked up at school. Listen the the story below. Once you have listened to the story you are going to create a ME Bag. First decorate the bag to represent you. Write your name on the front! Next, collect three special objects around the house that describe who you are and what you like to do. Put the objects in the bag and be ready to tell the class about the objects and what they mean to you during zoom times on Thursday.

Math: Today for math I am sending you on a scavenger hunt around the house to find some interesting shapes. Watch the video below, gather your shapes, and get your parent to send me a photo of the shapes you found through Class Dojo!

Tuesday

Reading: Summer break is sadly over, but I would love to hear about what you did this summer. I wonder if your summer was anywhere near as exciting as they little boy in the story, How I Spent My Summer? Watch the video below to see if they compare. After you listen to the story use the writing paper named Summer Fun supplied in your packet to tell me about your summer. Once you write your story, use the empty box at the top to draw me a picture of your summer fun. Use color!

Math: Yesterday you went on a shape hunt, today I am sending you on a money hunt! Watch the video below to learn about coins. At the end of the video, I have a problem for you to solve! Find the answer and dojo me the answer!

Wednesday

Reading: Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is one of my favorite books because it's about a little girl who knows how special she is and does not let any one tell her differently. Listen to the video below and find the paper person in your packet. Draw and color on the person to make it look like you. Then add descriptive words around your paper person to tell about all of the wonderful things you like to do, can do, or words that describe you. Send me a picture of your work through class dojo when you are done.

Math: This year in math we are going to be creating lots of equations. Today we are going to start with equations that equal to 20. How many different equations do you think you could make? Watch the video below. Then collect 20 small objects around your house (like cereal, paper clips, buttons, pennies, or legos!) Use the 20 objects to create different ways to make 20. For example, 12 legos + 8 legos = 20. How many different ways can you make twenty? Take a picture of your favorite one and send it to me on dojo.
