Message from the Principal
Hello Tomlinson families,
It's been wonderful seeing all of you at our PTA Round Up and Meet the Teacher nights. As we prepare for our official first day, I want to provide some reminders as well as some new information.
Dress Code:
Growth spurts in the summer lead to short shorts and short shirts. Please check the length of your child's clothes to make sure it is school appropriate.
The NISD dress code requires students to have hair of a natural color. Bright blue, purple and pink hair is fun for the summer however it's time to get it changed back. If your student currently has colored hair, please take care of that before Monday.
Breakfast & Lunch: Meals are FREE FOR EVERYONE so I hope you all will take advantage of that opportunity for your children to enjoy two great meals each day. Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m. daily.
Immunizations: Many families didn't visit the doctor's office last year due to the pandemic and may have gotten behind on required vaccinations. Please make sure your child's immunizations are up to date. To assist our families, NISD and University Health Systems host mobile clinics throughout the district. That information is attached below.
Face masks: In the interest of student and staff health and safety, NISD Board of Trustees voted to implement a temporary facemask mandate. All students, staff and visitors are required to wear a facemask while indoors at district facilities and on school buses. Please make sure your child comes to school with their favorite facemask. A spare is always a good idea as well.
Don't forget those water bottles. It's hot outside and your students come in from recess extra thirsty. Our water bottle refill stations are ready to go!
I hope you'll take a few minutes to read through the newsletter to stay abreast of campus news. We are blazing the trail together!

NISD Health Guidelines
NISD will continue to follow the recommendations and guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as well as local public health guidance. We anticipate changes and modifications will continue throughout the school year in order to provide the safest situation possible for our students, families and employees.
- As we head into the 2021-2022 school year, the changing health metrics are closely monitored. District plans include a continued emphasis on sanitation and cleaning of all facilities and physical distancing when possible. A temporary facemask mandate has been instated by the district. Please ensure your child comes to campus with their favorite mask. A spare is always a good idea.
- We may not compel an individual to disclose whether or not they have received COVID-19 vaccinations.
- Routine and frequent cleaning and disinfecting will continue. Frequent handwashing will also be encouraged with hand sanitizer available for students and staff.
- In the event of positive cases of COVID-19, we will follow recommended CDC guidelines for contact tracing and quarantining. We continue to monitor local health conditions and any changes to these guidelines will be communicated.
Student Classroom Assignments
Most importantly, we want to be sure the needs of our students are met. Oftentimes, the information we have for new students is limited. As we gain new information, we will make adjustments to placement if support in a special program is required.
Our priority is student success and we ask that you be patient during this time of transition. Working with you as the parent, we'll continue to make decisions in the best interest of your child and that might include a class change when new information becomes available. We certainly want to set each student up for success.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have information about your child that you feel would benefit us in making class placement decisions. Although we try to minimize changes, our grade levels are quickly becoming over full which may lead to changes in staffing.
Enjoying Time with Mr. Tomlinson!
Mr. Tomlinson came to visit on Monday.
He spent a little time talking to the staff.

NISD Notification re: Student Devices for the 2021-22 School Year
Northside has worked to procure and prepare devices for students in the district. To that end, your child(ren) will be provided a device because of an identified unmet technology need and to ensure success in the classroom.
The Northside device is being assigned to your child so he/she can continue their digital learning while participating in Northside curriculum both in class and at home. Every student and parent with a device is responsible for taking care of the device to ensure that present and future students continue to benefit from technology in education (please read more in the NISD Technology Loan Agreement). By accepting this device, you are acknowledging that your student(s) will provide basic care for the device and would otherwise lack a device sufficient to engage in the Northside curriculum.
If your student has their own mobile device that is sufficient to engage in daily learning at home and in school, please notify the district via the NISD Device Lending Agreement on nisd.net/parents page for data gathering purposes. Please note that if your student has an adequate device at home, that will not prevent your student from receiving a district issued device unless you decline/opt out of the Northside device on the nisd.net/parents page via the NISD Device Lending Agreement.
If you choose to opt out of receiving a Northside device, it’s strongly encouraged that your child bring a household device to complete the Northside curriculum. Please refer to the district handbook to read policies regarding “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) and understand that troubleshooting on a BYOD device will be limited to connecting to district WiFi, student password assistance, and basic website navigation. BYOD devices will not be serviced by the district Helpdesk.
Lastly, if you opt out of a Northside device for your student(s) and wish to switch to a district issued device you will need to revisit the NISD Device Lending Agreement on nisd.net/parents to change your selection at any time.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education. We look forward to serving our students in the upcoming school year.
