NES MOUNTAIN MEMO
January 31, 2020
From Principal Reckert
Dear Nederland Elementary Families,
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” It has been so fun to see all of our students so excited to go to Eldora for skiing or snowboarding lessons and then to see them come back from the slopes so proud of themselves for their accomplishments on the hill. A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers and our PTA that has made this week a huge success! It takes an incredible amount of organization to schedule lessons and equipment for an entire school. Thank you to Cheree Stover, Scott Rainey, and Jess McElvain for making this a reality! Also, a big thank you to all the parents volunteering at Eldora or at school to support students.
I hope you can join us Saturday at NMSHS at 1:00 or 4:30 to watch the latest Warren Miller movie. This PTA fundraiser benefits many programs at both Nederland Schools. See the flyer below for more details.
This week we have also been continuing to review appropriate expectations. On Monday, Mr. Monte brought a bus from the Bus Barn and went over bus expectations for all grade levels. This was a great refresher before we all went to Eldora this week. Thanks, Mr. Monte!
Have a great weekend,
Laurel

What- is a book fair?
● A chance for your student to buy wonderful books and trinkets (pens, erasers, and bookmarks)
● Half of the sales go directly to the teachers for more books and school supplies, through the scholastic program
● Each teacher picks books for a wish list you are able to gift the classroom with these books
● Teaches kids how to use money in a store setting remember, yes there is sales tax. Flyers will be sent home in Friday folders so your family can browse some of the items sold at the fair and get an idea of the prices. Each class will visit the book fair during school hours. During this time they will be able to either purchase a book or write out a wish list to bring home to you. Cash, Credit, and checks are accepted. We will also be asking for volunteers to run the registers during the fair. A helpatschool signup will be set up so look for that next week. Please consider helping out the PTA!
Thank you!

Social Emotional Learning at NES
Social Emotional Learning at NES ( Jan 27-31,2020)
We each have the power within us to change someone's day. Students brainstormed a myriad of ways they could Be Kind (great book by Pat Zietlow Miller) at school, at home, and in their community. They watched how one act of kindness transformed an entire community and created a ripple effect in the video Kindness Boomerang. Secret Kindness Agents were given special assignments to spread acts of kindness and words of appreciation to students and staff members this week. A human sculpture garden that silently depicted various acts of kindness popped up in the Kiva for students to explore. Each day, we have the choice to either add to the kindness, sense of belonging, and acts of service in our world.... or feed in with the cruelty, exclusion, and greed. Read how one parent reinforces the former qualities with one simple question for her children each day: How Have You Been Kind Today?
