Thank You to the 3rd Grade Living Classroom Chairs!

A huge thank you to Living Classroom Chairs Emily Wyskiel, Committee Members Kate Geletka and Sarah Terhune, who did a fabulous job organizing and executing this beloved 3rd Grade tradition sponsored by the PTO. Emily created a comprehensive program complete with in-class presentation and handouts that included a crossword, word search, coloring page, and journal page. The 3rd Graders got to take home a tulip bulb and instructions on how to grow the tulip indoors this winter. The lovely tulips planted by the 3rd graders will bloom next Spring near Akenside Road and we can't wait to see how they turn out!

PTO Invests in Brown Bag Book Club

Did you know that when you buy books from the Scholastic Book Fair, the PTO earns Scholastic credits that can be used to buy books for classroom libraries and support literacy in the school?

This year, your PTO used more than $2500 of their Scholastic credit to update the offerings for our lunchtime book club, the Brown Bag Book Club (formerly called the Flying Carpet Club). Nora Durbin, from the Riverside Public Library, worked with Central's Library Media Specialist, Ellen Nolan, to select two new book sets for each grade from 1st through 5th. Some of the titles that will be discussed in the Brown Bag Book Club include A Boy Called Bat; Flora & Ulysses; Because of the Rabbit; and The Goldfish Boy. Just another example of your PTO support at work!

Brown Bag Book Club runs from January - March and more details, including how to sign-up, will be sent to parents this winter, so stay tuned. Thank you Nora and Mrs. Nolan for all your work on refreshing this Central program!
