News from Ms. Hess
In literacy this week, we shared from our poetry collection and discovered the connections between the poem New Colossus and a narrative non-fiction about its author. It was so fun to see them light up when their inferences were confirmed!
In writing, we wrote a collective diamante poem with a first-grade buddy and a second-grade buddy. What a great chance to get to know our lower elementary students better! We also worked with a cool app called Word Mover that works like electronic magnetic poetry!
In math, we are building with cubes to calculate volume and understand and apply the formula for volume.
In science, we investigated the difference between melting and dissolving. On Friday, we had a taste test extravaganza by mixing different amounts of Kool-Aid into water, then different amounts of water into the same amount of Kool-Aid to discover concentration and dilution. Ask your child which was their favorite!
Track and Field Day is this coming Friday, May 10. All parents are invited to attend if they'd like. Running events are scheduled in the morning and field events are scheduled in the afternoon. Please have your child wear a GRAY shirt as Amana was asked to wear GRAY this year. SEE THE VOLUNTEER SIGN UP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT! THANKS!
