News from this week
Dear Parents,
The Boosterthon is well underway! Thank you to those who have registered and/or donated. We have earned Hat Day and Crazy Socks Day so far. We have different incentives for different levels so keep on getting those pledges. The last day to enter pledges is on Tuesday. The main event will take place on Wednesday morning. Next week we will complete our class flag and be ready to run! The kids are definitely excited to run their laps.
We had our class spelling bee today. Congratulations to Atharva Bhardwaj for winning the class spelling bee! He will compete as our class representative in the school wide spelling bee held on Tuesday, December 19. If Atharva is not able to participate on the 19th, our runner up, Victoria Dennis, will take his place. Great job to both Atharva and Vicky!
We have one more week until Thanksgiving break. Time has certainly flown by this year. Many of the students have had a hard time this week with talking too much and not listening. We have lots to cover next week, so please make sure your child is here and ready to learn.
We started our unit on the water cycle. It is a short unit. The study guide will come home on Monday, and our assessment will be on Friday. We also have a Unit 2 test on our Greek and Latin Roots next week. We will make a matching game and there is also a Quizlet on e-class.
Turkey Reading Logs are in your child's Friday Folder. These are due on the Monday after the Thanksgiving break. Late logs will not be accepted. There will be a prize for those who complete and turn in the log on time.
Please be sure to read the important messages from Ms. Pugh and Dr. Barlow below.
I am in my classroom on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 for Morning Math. If your child needs extra help or practice please feel free to drop him/her off at the front door or park and walk your child in.
Have a great weekend!
Sabine Stoffle

Message from Dr. Barlow
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
The Gwinnett County Public School System is committed to providing students with the best possible education and school experience. We recognize, however, that there is always room for growth and improvement. An excellent way for us to determine how to improve is by asking you. Your response is especially important because you can help us determine where improvements are needed. Please take a few minutes to complete the RBES Parent Survey located on the Parent Portal from September 25, 2017 through November 17, 2017. If you need a paper copy of the survey in English or Spanish, please notify your child's teacher. Thank you for taking the time to help us with this important survey. Your participation now will help us to provide even better educational experiences in the future.
Sincerely,
Dr. Barlow
Principal

Message from Ms. Pugh:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself. My name is Natalie Pugh and I joined the Gwin Oaks Elementary School family as the School Counselor during the 2008-2009 school year. Amy Dyche, counselor for 4th and 5th grade has taken a full time position closer to her home, so I will be working again with all students here at Gwin Oaks Elementary School.
As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I look forward to offering support to the students, staff, families and community. I will soon be meeting with students individually and in small groups during lunch, conducting classroom lessons, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, to meet the needs of all Gwin Oaks students and families.
Any student can request to meet with me or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. I encourage you to reach out if you have concerns regarding your child. If you would like me to meet with your child, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I am here to help students achieve their personal/social and academic goals, as well as provide support for the parents and teachers. I can be reached by email at natalie_pugh@gwinnett.k12.ga.us or phone at 770-972-3110.
Warm Regards,
Natalie Pugh
