Congratulations to Dr. Steidinger for being a Wake County (WCPSS) Principal of the Year Finalist!
The staff honored Dr. Steidinger this morning during a breakfast celebration. The students lined the halls to cheer for her and to hold up their hand made congratulatory signs. The school was filled with pride!
As a school, we would like to congratulate her and show our appreciation in one more way. Please wear her favorite colors (Purple and/or Carolina Blue) on Monday, October 8th.

READvolution is Back!
For the second consecutive year, Wake County Public Schools has partnered with the Carolina Hurricanes to bring READvolution to all of our elementary schools, including OCE. This exciting partnership will support a community-wide literacy campaign around daily reading outside of school for elementary students.
This year, the READvolution time frame will be between Monday, Sept. 24th and Friday, Nov. 16th. The challenge features both individual and school-wide components, as well as goals for each. Students who achieve the goal of reading 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive TWO complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game!!
For complete details, click here! Then get to reading!

TREASURE CHEST
Countdown to the Boosterthon Fun Run!
Parents: This year’s main fundraiser is the Olive Chapel Boosterthon Fun Run! Here is EVERYTHING you need to know.
WHAT:
The Boosterthon Fun Run is a two-week fundraising program.
WHEN:
The Fun Run will kick off with a pep rally at the school Monday, October 15th for tracks 1, 2, & 3 and Monday, October 22nd for track 4. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (around 30-35 laps) during the Fun Run.
The Fun Run will be:
Friday, October 19th (track 3), 9:30 a.m. ALL GRADES
Friday, October 26th (tracks 1, 2, & 4)
- 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. - Grades 2 and 3
- 10:35 - 11:35 a.m. - Grades 4 and 5
- 11:40 - 12:40 a.m. - Grades K and 1
All families are invited to come and cheer on your runner!
THEME:
Students will experience this year's amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB!
Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
GOAL:
Our goal is to raise $33,000 for Technology. The OCE PTA is working with the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power the run to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun! Donations to the Boosterthon Fun Run will go toward Technology and to the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors.
VOLUNTEERS:
We are looking for a volunteers to help count laps and man water stations during the Fun Runs on October 19th and October 26th. This is a great way to see the run with the best seats in the house!
If you would like to help support the Fun Run but are unable to attend we are also in need of silly string donations. As a reward for the top students in each grade per track who raise the most in their Boosterthon Fun Run, we will be hosting a Silly String Battle with the OCE faculty! What kid wouldn't want to Silly String Battle with their principal? Silly string donations should be dropped off in the front office.
To donate silly string, please SIGN UP HERE!
Thank you for supporting our children and school with this year's Boosterthon Fun Run!!
CREW NEWS
Our first Walk to school Wednesday was a huge success!
Students will be sporting orange pedometers to track their steps this year. We had our School Board representative, Lindsay Mahaffey join us, along with Jena Shouse from the town of Apex Planning Department. SRO Patel and the Apex PD kept us safe as we crossed the streets. Mrs Joyner’s class kicked off their research project and counted cars this week to compare how walking to school impacts our carpool line. Stay tuned for details on how those numbers turned out.
Our first graders won the Grade Challenge with the most walkers and 4 students from that grade won OCE water bottles. Let’s see what grade can get the most walkers next time! Thank you to all of you for your support and time this morning.
See you on November 7 for our next Walk to School Wednesday!
Kids Corps Club Hurricane Relief Project
The OCE Kids Corps Club will be hosting a #letthecoinsflo coin drive from October 1st to November 1st to support an elementary school in New Hanover county affected by Hurricane Florence. We will have a kindergarten/1st grade jar, 2nd/3rd grade jar, and 4th/5th grade jar.
Send in your coins and help a school in need!
LEGO Club
LEGO club is a staff led BEFORE-school club for K, 1st and 2nd grade students only.
LEGO Club focuses on inspiring children to think creatively, reason systematically, and use their imagination to play. LEGO Club will take place on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the library starting January 2nd. Students must be dropped off promptly at 8:00 a.m.
PLEASE REGISTER EACH CHILD INDIVIDUALLY. If you are interested, please fill out this registration form. There will be a $5 registration fee. You can send the fee into your child's teacher with your child's name on it. Make checks payable to OCE PTA or use this link for online payment.
