8th Grade Update
February 16, 2018
Dear 8th Grade Students and Families,
This week was filled with celebrations! First, we celebrated Valentine's Day party by learning all about the Choose Love Movement (#chooselove) and throwing a sugar-packed party! Then, we welcomed the beginning of the Lenten season with a thoughtful Stations of the Cross and reflective Ash Wednesday Mass. Today, we had a chance to participate in the Vietnamese New Year and received lucky coins to keep close at heart. In between all of the festivities, we also forged ahead in our class novel Flowers for Algernon and are excited to be approaching the end.
Independent reading is our new Learning Lab focus this quarter and this Wednesday was our first time meeting in our reading groups. Together, we chose our novels. Separately, we figured out a plan to get our own copies! Parents can help support their child's success by encouraging independent reading at home every night. If your family opted to send in money to have us order the book for you, they will be arriving early next week. Remember: If your child has not returned their signed slip, you received a phone call from them at lunch today explaining that it is overdue and will not be accepted later than this coming Tuesday.
Enjoy your long weekend and President's Day off! See you Tuesday!
Love,
Ms. K
