Audubon Elementary

December 2015

From the Principal's Desk

As quickly as the school year began, the calendar year is coming to an end. As we approach the holiday season, we become busy with family events, fun activities, and the general hustle and bustle. I encourage you to be mindful of your child's schedule and the impact the stress adults are feeling has on our children. Try to keep your child on a consistent bedtime routine. The excitement children are feeling at this time of year coupled with changes in routine can lead to fatigue and anxiety which often lead to tantrums and difficult behaviors. Plenty of rest and structure can help keep children on track. Remember that your time is the best gift you can give your child.

I wish you all the best this holiday season and in the new year!

Kind regards,

Tara Ricci

Recess and the Weather

As we enter the cold weather season, please keep in mind that students will still be going out for recess. We use a childcare weather watch chart to determine if it is safeto be out for the full 30 minutes (grades 1-4) or if we should shorten the time to 15 minutes or stay inside for recess. With that in mind, please be sure your child comes to school prepared to be outside for recess.

Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders

We want to keep everyone safe! Please remember to stay in your car and pull as far around as possible when dropping-off or picking-up at arrival and dismissal. Students should exit and enter your vehicle from the curbside only. There is no parking in the circle during arrival and dismissal times.

Please continue to send a note if your child is parent pick-up, staying after-school for an activity, or not going to the Y or other daycare as usual. If you forget to send the note in the morning, give us a call. We will be glad to write the note for you!

Winter Solstice

We hope you will join us on Friday, December 4 for our annual Winter Solstice event. This is a fun evening for families complete with games, crafts and a chance to win beautiful prizes. We also host our holiday shop for children to buy gifts for their loved ones. It is a great way to get in the holiday spirit!
