Career Week
Career Week is a time for students to explore and learn about different career paths. We are asking for community members and/or parents to come into the classroom and share insights about your career! If you are interested in presenting please fill out this form. If you have any questions, please contact maria.powers@lcps.org.
International Night
We are so excited to be hosting an International Night this year at River Bend! Please save the date for Wednesday, March 1st from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. We hope you can join us!
We would love to get family involvement in our International Night!
- In History classes, students will be receiving sign-up sheets if families would like to host a table (option to combine with families on this), bring food, do a performance, bring a cultural craft or game, etc. Students can turn this form back into their History teacher or Mrs. Kenny (Assistant Principal) by February 10th.
- There is a Google Form if you would prefer to fill out the form electronically. Link: https://bit.ly/RBMInternationalNight
- If you have any connections with local businesses that you think might be interested in supporting or participating in International Night, please have that business reach out to Juliet Kenny (juliet.kenny@lcps.org).
- If you have any pictures to share of your family in cultural clothing or eating ethnic foods or in a different country, we are creating a slide deck to showcase the diversity at River Bend. Please feel free to email 1-2 pictures to Ms. Keeton (cristina.keeton@lcps.org).
There will be more information and details to come as we get closer to the date. We are looking forward to this community event and hope to see you there!
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out to Assistant Principals Juliet Kenny (juliet.kenny@lcps.org) or Nick Fisher (nicholas.fisher@lcps.org).

VDOE Growth Assessments
Students in grades 3-8 will take the Virginia Department of Education’s growth assessments in reading and math during the fall and again during the winter. The Winter Growth Assessments will be given at River Bend on the following dates, through your student’s Math and Language Arts Classes:
- Monday, January 30/Tuesday, January 31 – Math Winter Growth Assessment
- Wednesday, February 1/Thursday, February 2 – Reading Winter Growth Assessment
- Friday, February 3 – Winter Growth Assessment Make-ups (as needed)
The online growth assessments are adaptive assessments that aid teachers with identifying learning strands that require additional instruction. In addition, the results indicate specific benchmarks for student growth. Students will take these tests in addition to the spring Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.
Questions can be directed to our school’s testing coordinator, Nick Fisher at nicholas.fisher@lcps.org.
