Reminders
Tardiness:
Everyone is expected to be here by 7:40 or 7:30 if you have duty.
Not making copies, getting coffee, in another teacher’s room or just walking through the door
If you have duty, make sure notify someone if you are going to be out or switch with someone so the duty is covered. One person CANNOT and will not be able to handle duty alone. (two people can’t see everything, so one person certainly can’t)
It is for the safety of the students that everyone properly and actively monitors whether it’s during duty or at dismissal (spread out and walk around)
Drills:
Please make sure you are referring to the drill cards or drill procedures you received at the beginning of the year
Green and red cards are only used during a fire drill, tornado, or earthquake drill, NO cards for lockdown drills
If a student is missing during a lockdown drill, please text both administrators, Mr. Bennett (870) 762-9566, or Mrs. Miller (870) 824-8480
Drills are monthly and have been planned/scheduled for the whole year
Changes are sometimes made based on circumstances or if I have enough people to assist with them
Fire drills are required by the state every month and have to be reported each month with the date and times
Drill times are varied so they don’t occur at the same time each month
Please remind students to be quiet and calm at all times
Positive Contacts:
Please make sure you are making positive contacts every month (at least 5 a week)
Parents want to hear something positive about their child even if you have to make something up (it will work in your favor in the long run with behavior or if a problem arises)
Mrs. Vincent will continue to send the positive contact document out. Please make sure you are documenting your positive contacts and examples in that document
It is a state requirement that positive contacts are done monthly
If you have a student that you would like Mrs. Walker or Ms. Adelowo to make a positive contact about, please email us the information that you would like us to share. This will allow parents to hear something positive from an administrator.
Referrals
Please do not send a student to the office unless a referral has been put in and the student has been called. This should be indicated in your sub plans.
When writing a referral always assume that a parent, district office administrator, or even lawyer might read it
He/she was on one, acting a fool, off the chain, acting crazy, mom or dad doesn’t care
It is an official document that the state reviews, please make sure it is written professionally. This includes emails.
State the facts only - do not put opinions in the write up
I think she thinks she is grown, he acts like he doesn’t care, I think he/she is racist, and etc., no personal information
Please know your students with IEPs and 504s when putting in a referral
If the behavior is a result of what the disability is or what’s on a behavior plan, a severe consequence can’t be administered
More schools have been sued for 504s than IEPs (per lawyer)
If you don’t know what students have 504s, please see Mrs. Turney
National Board Certification
National Board Certified Teachers in Arkansas earn an annual pay supplement of $2,500-$10,000
Students of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) outperform students of non-NBCTs on achievement tests, and the positive effect is even greater for minority students.
Being National Board Certified in Arkansas may qualify someone for other state recognized endorsements
National Board Certification is a “transformative experience” for many teachers.
The Arkansas National Board Pre-Candidate Program was designed in partnership with the National Board to significantly increase the likelihood of passing the component exams.
Teachers have no upfront costs (except for the $75 registration fee), and can defer the cost to complete the program and become certified. There is no school or district cost.

PBIS Fidelity Inventory
In an effort to ensure that we are effectively teaching P.R.I.D.E expectations, students and teachers will be randomly asked to recite what P.R.I.D.E stands for. Please make sure you are teaching this every morning to your students and are familiar yourself.
P- Personal Responsibility
R- Respect
I- Integrity
D- Disciplined
E- Engaged
Students will also be asked a variety of questions concerning the last time they received P.R.I.D.E bucks and what they received them for. We are encouraging everyone to distribute them daily for good behavior. If you need more, please email Ms. Whitley or Mrs. Jones.
Nurse's Corner
Please keep in mind that we are still in the peak of flu season and of the importance of washing our hands so we can maintain good attendance in school. If you are sick, please stay home and help us prevent the spread of germs and illness in our district. Students and staff who have been sick must be fever/diarrhea free without the use of medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Any student or staff member with a fever of 100.4 F or above will be sent home! If you have been diagnosed with the flu please make sure to include that in your excuse letter so that the school nurse can keep a record of how many flu cases there have been this year. Remind parents to check their mail and student’s backpacks for letters regarding immunizations. If a student is turning 11 years old this month, they will be required to receive additional vaccines unless otherwise exempt. Parents must call and make an appointment with their doctor or the health department on or immediately following their child's birthday. They must also notify the school nurse of the date and time of the appointment.
