January 2022
Superintendent's Message
Happy 2022!!
January 14th marked the end of the first semester of the 2021-2022 school year. I want to thank the Avon Lake City Schools’ staff, our students, their families, and our community for everything they have done to make the first semester a success. As a school district we carefully plan for each school year knowing that those plans will change, in fact they have to change if we are going to meet our goals for the education of all students. I am so proud of how we have met the challenges thrown our way in 2021. I am excited for the second semester and know that together we can continue to face any challenge successfully and continue the outstanding educational experiences that our students need for success.
I would also like to say a special thank you to the members of the Avon Lake City School District Board of Education. January is designated as School Board Recognition Month. The opportunities to say thank you to our School Board Members are limited and that is a shame. This group of five people work year round for our students and our community. Their dedication to students and providing those students with an up-to-date, rigorous, comprehensive education is evident in the success of our graduates year after year.
I would be remiss if I didn’t say a special thank you to Dale Cracas. Dale retired from the School Board on December 31st after 16 years of dedicated service to our students. His selfless service to our community has made Avon Lake a better place to raise kids and to live.
Have a great second semester! Go Shoremen and Shoregals!
- Bob Scott
We want your feedback!
Our district’s math curriculum is undergoing its six-year review cycle for the upcoming school year. A district level committee, representing each building and grade level, has examined several different programs. Our options are: keeping our current program EnVisions, or switching to Big Ideas (this does not include high school math classes that utilize specialized materials).
We welcome parent feedback on both our current program, enVisions, as well as Big Ideas Math.
Send to feedback@avonlakecityschools.org.
Westview students visit fire station
Westview Elementary Student Council members recently received a tour of the Avon Lake Fire Department and the firemen even made breakfast for the students.
