Social Studies in Action
It's hard to believe that the end of the school year has arrived! This year had its ups and downs with a tremendous sense of accomplishments. So many things have been accomplished this year in all grade levels in social studies. Our studnets have been involved in a n extraordinary number of activities. Of course, we should not forget the tremendous amount of learning which has taken place during the year in social studies. Throughout these activities our students at AMS have demonstrated great character. Our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, once said "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power". Our social studies teachers have empowered our students with the knowledge and skills to be college bound. Empowering our students to take charge of their learning opened doors in all directions which created a powerful learning environment that fostered the success of all students. The 8th graders have been preparing for the STAAR test since March. Students have been using social studies resources and reviewing strategies to get ready for their upcoming STAAR test on May 17th. Today will be our last-ditch effort to review with our 8th grade students before the test on Thursday. The 7th graders have been examining the unit of study "Texas in a Time of Conflict and Change 1910-1970". While 6th graders have been exploring the West Asia unit. We are super proud of our AMS students for the hard work they have put in this year with purpose, passion, and pride.
Thank you, Social Studies department, for everything you do each and every day for our AMS cubs. Your energy, patience, kindness, generosity, and dedication are profoundly appreciated. Thank you for all that you do with purpose, passion, and pride.
