The New Challenge
The vast majority of our students are doing great! They are making us so proud. We just need to fine tune some behaviors and expectations.
Its is important for students and staff to feel safe and secure in our school. We have security cameras; however, we hate to look back but rather encourage a positive school climate and culture.
In response to these recent behaviors, we have created some interventions we would like to share with you including but not limited to:
-frequent walk throughs of student rest rooms by staff
-AM and PM announcements reminding students of expectations
-Admin recorded a video that was shown in all classrooms with behavior reminders and expectations
-Admin to visit classrooms to personally address behavior concerns--we started this on Friday visiting almost every 6th grade Science classroom
-Investigate situations and administer consequences, which includes contacting parents and creating interventions to prevent future behavior

We have free lunches available daily in our cafeteria for all students-no sign up required.
Any lunches delivered to school will be held until the end of the school day.
CoVid Protocol Updates
If your student has been tested and is waiting for a result, please keep your student at home until the results are available and call the safeline to report the absence.
If your student has been exposed to another person with Co-VID, please keep your student at home and call the safeline UNLESS your student is vaccinated. If your student is exposed and vaccinated please let the office know so we can properly document the vaccination status; however your student is allowed to attend face to face school.
If your student is being continually exposed to a household member with Co-VID there are quarantine and exposure guidelines we must follow. Please call the office and let us know so we can properly guide you.
If your student tests POSITIVE for Co-VID please keep your student home AND call the safeline to report the test result. Students who test positive must remain home for 10 days regardless of vaccination status. The 10 days are calculated based on symptoms or if asymptomatic, test results.

Strategic Planning
We are working with the Michigan Association of School Boards to develop a shared 3-5 year Strategic Plan so that we can develop a clear road map that will guide our future. A key element of this process is to collect feedback from staff, students, parents, and community members in order to create this shared road map. As a result, the Michigan Association of School Boards will be leading focus groups with various stakeholders in order to collect this valuable feedback. These focus groups will be a mix of in-person and virtual sessions and should include about 20 people per focus session.
The purpose of this communication is to determine which parents from across the district are interested in participating in the parent focus groups. Please complete the survey that is linked here by Monday, September 20th if you are interested in participating in one of the focus group sessions. We will then confirm your participation prior to the focus group session. When we send confirmation, we will also be sure to include the location and other logistical details so that you have everything you need to participate. We hope to have 20 parents in each of the focus group sessions. Your input and participation is important to us; we know that the success of this Strategic Planning work is directly dependent on the level of input we have from you.
Focus group sessions for staff will take place on the following dates:
Wednesday, September 29th (in-person): 3:30-4:30 PM
Thursday, September 30th (via Zoom): 4:30-5:30 PM
If you are unable to attend one of these group sessions, we still welcome and invite your feedback using the survey link below:
Thank you for considering this important opportunity and thank you for your continued support of the work that we do.
Educationally Yours,
Dr. Gerald Hill
