Welcome to Your Dallas College Fall Semester
Congratulations on successfully completing your first week of college courses!
Since this is the first time many of you have taken a dual credit college course and due to the changes we are facing each day with COVID protocols, Richardson ISD will provide you with periodic newsletters to keep you up to date with the latest information.
Earlier this week students and their parents were provided with an introductory email and welcome letter to help you become more familiar with the Dallas College dual credit program.
In the letter we shared information about how to maintain accurate contact information with Dallas College, differences between high school and college, dual credit grades, Dallas College deadlines, campus dual credit counselors, textbooks, and 504/IEP Accommodations.
In today's newsletter we are going to go a little deeper into a couple of topics from your welcome letter and share some new information that has been provided about Dallas College vaccine incentives.
Newsletter topics:
- Meet your campus dual credit counselor
- Upcoming Dallas College Deadlines
- Dates to Drop Fall Courses
- Dual Credit Grades
- Need help accessing eConnect?
- Need help accessing eCampus?
- What if I am taking a class and I am having trouble?
- ***NEW*** Dallas College COVID 19 Vaccine Incentive for Students
Meet your campus dual credit counselor
To better support our dual credit students, each RISD high school has designated a counselor to serve as their dual credit counselor. Dual credit counselors will be the expert on your campus for questions, concerns, scheduling, etc. with our Dallas College dual credit programs. Please feel free to reach out to your campus dual credit counselors if you have questions or need help.
Berkner High School - Ms. Nickleberry Traci.Nickleberry@risd.org
Lake Highlands High School - Mrs. Anderson Joycelyn.Anderson@risd.org
Pearce High School - Mrs. Murphree Courtney.Murphree@risd.org
Richardson High School - Mrs. Thomas-Wright Kristine.Thomas-Wright@risd.org
Upcoming Dallas College Deadlines
Specific deadlines for dual credit courses are set by Dallas College and are outlined on the Dallas College Academic Calendar (Dallas College 16 week Fall Calendar 21-22). Dallas College timelines and semester start and end dates are different from Richardson ISD timelines and dates. Dallas College does NOT make exceptions to their posted deadlines. Students and parents are responsible for knowing the deadlines and abiding by them. You will receive communication from the district and your teacher pertaining to drop deadlines.
You MUST communicate with your campus dual credit counselor about dropping dual credit classes by the Dallas College deadline dates. If you do not drop a class by the deadline dates, you could end up with a failing grade on your high school transcript AND your college transcript.
This means even if you do not complete one assignment with your professor and do not turn in a completed drop form to your dual credit counselor by the drop deadline date, then you will receive a 0 on your college and high school transcripts. This grade is permanent and will not be removed from high school or college transcripts.
Dates to drop fall courses
September 2 at 12 PM (noon)– By noon on September 2 , you must complete the Dallas College drop form located below and return it to your campus dual credit counselor. Dropping a course by September 2, keeps the course from appearing on your college transcript.
November 9 at 12 PM (noon) – By noon on November 9, you must complete the Dallas College drop form and return it to your campus dual credit counselor. You will have a “W” or withdraw placed on your college transcript.
Dual Credit Grades
Dual credit courses follow the grading policies of Dallas College. The assignments, assessments, and weights for each dual credit course can be found in the course syllabus. The majority of college courses do NOT allow late work or assessments to be retaken as outlined in the course syllabus. Review The Importance of Reading the Course Syllabus provided by Dallas College.
Students taking dual credit courses earn college credit while in high school. The credits transfer to public colleges in Texas and many private and out of state colleges. Grades for dual credit classes are transcribed on both the high school and college transcripts.
9th - 11th Grade Students
- Dual credit grades will not be reported on Richardson ISD progress reports and will NOT be in the RISD gradebook (Focus) during the semester for parents to monitor progress.
- Dual credit students will monitor grade progress for dual credit courses during the semester through the Dallas College eCampus system. At the end of each semester, the grades earned in dual credit courses will be entered in the RISD gradebook (Focus) system.
- Parents are encouraged to frequently check their students' college/high school grades in the Dallas College eCampus system.
- On every “C” day, please expect an email or text from your student with a snapshot of their current college grade for the course.
- Dual credit grade disputes must go through the Dallas College Grade Dispute Resolution process.
12th Grade Students
- Dual credit grades will be reported on Richardson ISD progress reports and will be in the RISD gradebook (Focus) during the semester for parents to monitor progress if they are in a course where a RISD crednetialed teacher is teaching the course.
- Seniors who are taking courses on a RISD campus with a RISD facilitator and a Dallas College instructor, will not have grades reported for Richardson ISD progress reports and will NOT be in the RISD gradebook (Focus) during the semester for parents to monitor progress.
- Dual credit students will need to monitor their college grade progress for dual credit courses throughout the semester through the Dallas College eCampus system. At the end of each semester the grades earned in dual credit courses will be placed on a student's Dallas College transcript and in the RISD gradebook (Focus) system.
