Eastwood High School

Principal's Update #33 - May 13, 2016

Dear Parents & Community Members

Eastwood high School continues to celebrate all of our successes and accomplishments as we move forward with the month of May. With the conclusion of the school year officially around the corner, we've got quite a bit of end-of -year activities in place to recognize all of our students one final time.

As a reminder, the "official" last day for Seniors - the Class of 2016 - will be on Tuesday, May 24th. Students in grades 9, 10, & 11 will finish on Friday, May 27th - which will also be an early release day with a 1:15 PM dismissal.

We look forward to celebrating everyone's achievement and hope to see many of you at one of our final activities of the 2015/16 school year.

Go Eagles!!!

Class of 2016....Here We Come!!!

The Class of 2016 has a tremendous amount to be proud of as they enter the final few days of their academic careers at Eastwood High School. Whether they are attending college, the military service, or the workforce - they're all prepared to do amazingly well in the next chapter of their life.

On Friday, May 13th we took advantage of the wonderful sunny skies of northwest Ohio and encouraged students to wear their college apparel to show everyone where they are heading to next. We wish all of them - and the entire Class of 2016 - nothing but the best as they pursue their dreams and aspirations upon graduation on June 5th.

District Arts & Technology Show

The Eastwood Local Schools' District Arts & Technology Show will be held in the Eastwood HS Gymnasium on May 12th (5:00-9:00 PM) - opening night/reception, May 13th (school hours - 5:00 PM), and May 15th (1:30-6:00 PM). Please, stop in and see all of the wonderful projects created by students from the elementary, middle, and high school levels. We appreciate all of their efforts as well as the efforts of their classroom teachers (Mrs. Moorman - High School, Mrs. Tong - Middle School, & Mrs. Gullufsen - Elementary). We look forward to seeing everyone at this annual event.

European Trip Fundraiser

During this weekend's District Art & Technology Show, students who are attending the Spain, France & Italy trip in June 2017 have come up with a creative/artistic fundraising event that we hope you will consider participating in to support their efforts.

Students have been busy creating "upcycled "wine bottle Team Lamps, some of which you will see examples of in the attached flyer. Lamps are available for sale during a Silent Auction which will last the duration of the Art Show. A minimum opening bid of $15 is requested. Past that, the sky's the limit - remember you are helping 20+ students to embark on the experience of a lifetime that will forever change them!

We wanted to let you in on this so that if you see something you like, you can plan to come and bid high and bid often! Also, please share this information with your family and friends! We have started with a select number of teams but will also be taking orders if there is a special team for which you would like the lamp created. Here is what is for sale that evening:

  • Ohio State

  • University of Michigan

  • Michigan State

  • Kent State

  • Bowling Green State University

  • and LOTS of Eastwood Lamps for different sports! (If we don't have one you want, let us know, we can make it!)

Lamps can be further customized if you would like to order one for a particular sport. We hope you can join us!

We hope that you will support this wonderful fundraiser while attending the Art & Technology Show. Further information can be found on the attached flyer to this week's email.

Mane Miracle

The Eastwood community does a wonderful job in supporting our collective efforts at school and throughout the area. Here's yet another example of how we can all help. Special thanks is given to senior Lindsey King for bringing this event to our attention:

Have you ever wanted to be a part of a world record? Now is your chance: start growing your hair out now, and donate it on September 8th at the Mane Miracle. Not only will you contribute to a world record, but you will also help to provide wigs to cancer patients. Donations less than 8'' will be used to clean up oil spills, so everyone can help! For more information and to pledge your hair donation visit http://www.manemiracle16.com/
