Hello to all our fellow activists and allies, and so on!
Prescott College, Changemaker High School, and Mexicayotl Academy are working together to organize the Spring 2019 “PRAXIS Youth Organizing Conference” at the K-20 Changemaker High School Campus in Tucson, AZ on March 29-30. PRAXIS will be a two day conference where youth can collaborate together and share skill sets and knowledge gained from previous work. It is geared specifically towards youth who are engaged in community work and/or who are interested in getting involved. This is an opportunity for youth to build new relationships and bring new skills and connections back to their communities. The event will include workshops, youth and student led presentations, activities, food, entertainment, and an exciting keynote speaker, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors.
Because we have decided to host this conference free of charge for participating youth, we are working to raise a total of $6,000 to support this imaginative two day event. This will go towards food, supplies, T-shirts, and other miscellaneous expenses of hosting a conference. In effort to make this event as accessible as possible, we are also raising money to offer travel scholarships to youth who otherwise may not be able to attend. If you feel inspired and are able to donate, any amount will be met with gratitude. If you would like to learn more about the event, please feel free to contact us via email at praxis@k20tucson.org or browse the PRAXIS facebook page. If you would like to donate directly please click HERE, or check out our GO FUND ME.
Thank you for supporting the youth of today and future generations.
Sincerely,
The Students of Changemaker High School.
Scholarships
Through the generosity of our donors, Prescott College is pleased to offer several scholarships to assist students with their cost of attendance.
The Prescott College Financial Aid Office would like to encourage students to check out and apply for the 2019-2020 Endowed Scholarships. The deadline for Endowed Scholarship application is March 20, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
Please visit this web page for the 2019-2020 Endowed Scholarship Application and the selection criteria for the scholarships : https://www.prescott.edu/assets/documents/financial-aid/pdf-financial-aid-endowed-scholarship-criteria-app.pdf
Scholarship selection criteria will be based on a combination of academic performance, financial need, and/or intended program of study as designated by each donor. Financial need will be determined based on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information. Thus, we encourage all students to complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov as well.
Students with questions re: these scholarships should e-mail finaid@prescott.edu or call the financial aid office at (928) 350-1111.
Message from Jonathan Best
I want to let you know that I have arranged a fundraiser at the Raven Cafe for the Art programs with an emphasis on music during the transition to the APS property. The date is May 8th. The time has not been solidified.
I would like there to be a large student musical presence at this event. In other words, I would like everyone to look inside themselves for their inner performer, even if you don't think you will find them.
I would like to help form a committee to promote and create this event. So please contact me at jonathan.best@prescott.edu or call me at 928-830-4887. I'd be happy to get together and talk about this further with anybody in any configuration.
Other news is that La Platica will be back on its feet every Thursday from 4 to 5 pm. Hosted by myself and Miriel Manning, it is a chance to develop your Spanish, even if, like a baby, you have none. We only speak Spanish during that time, so you can just listen if you like. It happens in the comMUSIKey studio at Sam Hill.
Oh, and a question. Has anybody seen a banjo that was taken out of the studio? I'm not ruling out the possibility that I lent it to someone and then forgot about it. So there are no bad vibes if you know someone who borrowed it.
And finally, I invite you to a rare performance of my band Horned Beetle, Friday April 29 at Thumb Butte Distillery from 6 to 9 pm.
