RCMS 212 Degree Award Winners for February
- Ms. Rene Daniel, 8th ESOL is given the Risk-taking & Thinking Award: the recipient is not afraid to use creativity to inspire and to help others succeed.
- Ms. Ja'meria Simmons, 8th science is given the Inquiry & Knowledge Award: The recipient has innovatively instructed with MYP, WICOR, Personalized Learning instruction that empowers student ownership of learning.
- Ms. Kim Gunter, Media Specialist is given the Caring & Communicator Award: The recipient maintains a positive, caring attitude in difficult situations and steps outside his/her job description to help others.
- Ms. Anita Jackson, 8th math is given the Principled & Balanced Award: The recipient demonstrates principled leadership during difficult times, showing balance and sensitivity to those following his/her lead.
- Dr. LaShonda Mills, Graduation Coach is given the Open-minded & Reflective Award: The recipient is open-minded and reflective to support students in powerful ways beyond the expected as an educator.
Black History Month Black Excellence Week at RCMS
February 22-26 is a week of themed days for staff and students. All clothing must be school content and cut appropriate.
Day 1: HBCU Appreciation! Wear Historically Black Colleges & Universities gear! (list of HBCUs)
Day 2: Black Excellence Day Dress to Impress! Wear your best outfit or even your Sunday best!
Day 3: African Heritage Day! Wear culturally appropriate colors (red, green, yellow, black, purple) and/or clothing (i.e. Dashikis, tribal print, etc.).
Day 4: Black Hero Day! Dress like famous Black scientists, astronauts, entertainers, etc.
Day 5: Greek Life Day/Dress Down Day! Teachers are encouraged to dress in Greek Letter Organization paraphernalia and students may dress down for $1. Students must pay $1 upon entering the building if they are not wearing a uniform. Proceeds will be donated to an organization assisting with COVID relief.

Declare candidacy February 3rd-26th. We have openings for two parents and one teacher.
Now is an exciting and important time on the RCMS SGC. Recently we launched work on two initiatives focused on the image of RCMS in our community and celebrating diversity at our school. Every member of our council works on one of the committees plus regular SGC duties.
