Lasers

Laser History.

In 1917 Albert Einstein first theorized about the process which makes lasers possible called "stimulated emission". Before there were lasers though there were "masers". In 1954 Charles Townes invented the first "maser" ( microwave application by stimulated emission of radiation) before e first (optical ) laser. Then in 1960 Theodore Maiman invented the first ruby laser, considered the first successful optical or light laser.

Rise and Popularity

The laser was first just a mindless experiment done by a few scientists curious about some new technology off the "maser". When it was finally accomplished and done the laser was a breaking news invention that created a boom of questions and further experiment with the new technology. It rose in popularity rather quickly as many different business and occupations found use for it new found talent in such things as skin resurfacing or skin graphing as well as laser eye surgery and correction also even cures for carpel tunnel syndrome.

American Society

The first ruby laser changed society in many different ways. From your average party with laser light effects and fog, to your up to date laser eye surgery that costs hundreds of dollars. It has changed how we do surgery and even how we see and what we look like. In liposuction surgery they remove fat using lasers as well. So the laser has advanced our technology in physical way but also in geological ways. When cutting diamonds we use laser or cutting into the earth we use the heat. Lasers have advanced our way of life both day to day to historically.

Turing Point

I feel that the laser had a major impact on American life for 3 good reasons:

  1. The laser was invented theorized by Albert Einstein and later invented by Theodore Maiman and was then boosted across America for such a feat. The laser itself was a big step in technology and success.
  2. The laser has helped America is the medical field in GREAT ways from big and small to huge in significance to little. Correcting blindness isn't an easy task and with lasers we've managed that. We can make the over weight and not so skinny thin and as figured as they like. We can changed the burned victims with scares of brutality of war into normal handsome and beautiful people again
  3. And last but not least we have made catastrophic discovery's with lasers in the geological field. Cutting diamonds out of rock, or even cutting them in general Measurements into the earth made to see depths and how far we could go. Lasers are used on the moon and on satellites in out spaces because of there continuance for infinity if not stopped.

In my opinion lasers have effected us greatly through out history with each new discovery we find with it or about it. Lasers are apart of discover just as much as any tool used for searching finding and discovering is. Lasers go from child toys to master mind technological tools on a everyday basis.

Added Tid-Bit on the First Attempt

The first attempt the light to perform in lasers today was done by a Alexander Graham Bell. He showed an invention on how a persons voice can be carried by light from one location to another. To do so he used a device use called a photophone, it was made of a thin mirror, a receiver that could detect light, some wires, and an earpiece. For the device to work bell would place a mirror that sunlight reflected off of its surface and traveled more than one hundred feet to the receiver. When a person spoke near the delicate mirror, it vibrated slightly. This caused the sunlight being reflected into the receiver to vibrate, too. The receiver then changed the light vibrations into an electrical signal, which traveled through the wires to the earpiece.
