Hi-Cap Program Info and Applications for Next Year
Applications are now available from the district for next year's 4/5/6 Highly-Capable Class.
The 4/5/6 Highly Capable Program, taught by Ms. Brumley at Cathcart, is a multi-age, full-time class that emphasizes abstract thinking, complexity and depth. Highly capable students are students who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments.

Did You Know?
Many students who would benefit from highly-capable services are likely never referred for the program. Some students show their academic potential with high test scores and excellent grades -- but not all. Highly capable students often have unique needs and vulnerabilities, including social and emotional challenges, delayed executive function, asynchronous intellectual, social, and motor development, different developmental timelines, and a need for accelerated academics. That means that your child may excel in some areas but still struggle in others. As parents, we may also have outdated ideas of what a "gifted child" would look like.
Students of color, English-language learners, low-income students, students with disabilities, and twice-exceptional (“2e”) students are 250% less likely to be identified and served in highly capable programs, according to a Washington State Highly-Capable Program Working Group.
Jan. 20 -- 4/5/6 Hi-Cap Information session via Zoom, 6 p.m.
Feb. 11 -- Application packets due to LCE or District office.

Replacement levies on February 2022 ballot
At a December 8 meeting, the Snohomish School District Board of Directors adopted resolutions to place two propositions before voters on the February 8, 2022, ballot. Voters will consider two replacement levies - Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy and the Replacement Levy for Technology, Safety and Facility Improvements. Both levies would replace similar levies approved by voters in 2018 and are set to expire at the end of 2022.
