Writing
We will spend this week beginning the first chapter of our Famous Hoosier book. I will be guiding them through the writing process by modeling how to search for information in nonfiction text, then using that information to write a paragraph-long summary in their own words. We will be focusing on the childhood and early life of our Famous Hoosiers this week.
Indiana History
We will be spending this week learning about the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. For each of those, we will build some background knowledge about the big picture of the event, but focus on battles and affects on Indiana. We will test over these lessons on Thursday, February 23.
Language Arts
Wordly Wise: We will continue learning unit 11 this week. 11C & 11D will be due on Thursday. The unit 11 test will be on Friday, February 17.
Words Their Way: We will continue splitting into our small groups for spelling this week. Tic-Tac-Toe activities will be due on Thursday and their quiz will be Friday. We will not have WTW for the next two weeks due to the 3 day week next week and ISTEP+ the following week.
Math
We are back to learning about more fractions! This week, we will be focusing on adding mixed numbers, adding tenths and hundredths, problem solving with fractions, and subtracting fractions.
Science
We will be starting a new unit this week. Our next unit covers changes to our earth's surface, including slow changes (weathering & erosion by wind, water, and ice) and fast changes (earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes).
Family Wellness Night
The staff at Stonegate Elementary is pleased to announce that we will be holding our first Family Wellness Night on Thursday, February 16th from 6-7:30pm. We will have a variety of activities to promote wellness.
Registration is required and students must be accompanied by an adult.
Registered Sessions:
1.Nutritional Snacking –Healthy snacking can be easy with MyPlate. When using MyPlate as a guide, this will help your child eat healthy snacks and meet their nutritional requirements for a healthy diet.Students can make and take a healthy snack and parents will receive suggestions for healthy snacks for their child.
2.Math on the Move –Let’s make math MOVE! We’re all used to seeing math ON the page, but math ideas can also be explored OFF the page as well. In this activity parents and kids work together to learn simple foot-based dance patterns.Connecting movement to learning is a powerful way for learners to make sense of math and supports physical health and brain development at the same time.Come one, come all, we’re going to have a great time playing with math!
3.Emotional/Social Development –Whether you’re 5 or 55, we are all on a social learning journey….trying to EFFECTIVELY share space with one another, take care of ourselves, and keep others having green thoughts about us.
plus Yoga, the Heart Course, and more!
Registration flyers went home on Friday. Please send those in this week if you plan to attend!
