A Message From the Principal
This being the last parent letter of the year, I want to thank you for the support and patience shown these past 10 months. We had successes and some challenges, yet despite all, we continue the work that has to be done to ensure the safety and educational needs of our students. Warm weather is finally here and the month of May promises to be both a busy and an exciting time with competitive spring sports and the end-of-the-year achievements of our students as well as the celebration of our graduating 8th graders.
As we continue to move forward, I encourage parents to remain vigilant in monitoring their student's grades through the parent grade book portal. The month of May will be a busy testing month. We will be administering our Algebra 1 EOC and 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade STAAR exams. In addition, the end-of-year 7th and 8th-grade final exams are scheduled for the end of May. You can view the final exam schedule on the calendar above.
As always, I encourage you to please continue to refer to the MISD website, our school website, http://schools.misd.org/page/mjhs.homepage, and our social media pages (Twitter and Instagram) for additional information. For your convenience, helpful links and resources are posted at the end of the parent letter as well.
In closing, I want to say thank you, again for your continued support this year. Best wishes to our graduating eighth graders, whom I will miss greatly—please come back and visit. Until next school year, here’s wishing you love, laughter, and learning.
A NOTE FROM OUR NURSE
Students with medications in the clinic will need to pick up meds by May 24 or they will be discarded. Please contact our nurse for a curbside pick up time or come to front office.
Also, 6TH grade parents: A reminder that all students entering 7th grade in the state of Texas are required to have the immunizations listed below for enrollment.
1. Tdap (within 5 years of 7th grade enrollment date) (Dtap, dtp, tdap or DT, Td is acceptable if a medical contraindication to pertussis exists)
2. Meningococcal (on or after the student’s 11th birthday) (MCV4)
If your child has already received the required immunizations, please submit a valid copy of the immunization record to the MJH nurse so we can update your record. It is not necessary to wait until the summer months to obtain these immunizations and have your child’s records updated and ready for 7th grade. All immunizations must be in compliance in order to pick up your child’s 7th grade schedule during schedule pickup in August. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Buckner if you have any questions or concerns at courtney.buckner@misd.org or 936-276-3309.
A Note from our Counselors
Please see below for May STAAR test dates. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before and has a healthy breakfast the day of testing. Just a friendly reminder, we are a closed campus on STAAR days which means we will not allow visitors.
Just a reminder, to promote to the next grade level, students need to earn a final average of 70 or above for all core subjects (math, ELA, science, & social studies/history) and a final average of 70 or above in both ELA and math. Counselors will be contacting parents by phone and/or email the last week of May to provide summer school information for students who will need to attend for credit recovery. Summer School will take place the month of June, and specific dates and session times will be released soon. Check back on our school website for more summer school information as it is released.

Lunch Visitors and Drop Off Items
At this time and until further notice, MJH campus is closed to lunch visitors. If your student forgets their lunch, we have a table in our foyer you can leave items on. Make sure to let your student know you have left the item for them to retrieve. In addition, students are not allowed to have lunch delivered from an off-site fast food restaurant to the campus.
2021-2022 Academic Calendar - also on MISD website
MJH Parent/Student Handbook
The Parent-Student Handbook will be available on the MJH website. We encourage you to become familiar with the information contained in the handbook. Forms such as Release of Picture/Directory Information, Medication for the Nurse, Change of Address/Phone Number, and Technology Agreement are found at the back of the Handbook.
Transportation
We ask that you make every effort to request transportation changes prior to 1:30 p.m. in order for us to be certain that your student leaves in the correct manner. You may make changes by:
1. Sending a note with your child;
2. Faxing with a photo of your I.D. to 936-276-3301. Please include your student’s first & last name on any change. Emails or texts to teachers, phone calls to the front desk, and student-relayed messages are not requests that we honor for safety reasons.
· MJH CAR RIDER LINE/BUS POLICY
Due to the continued growth of MISD, we will no longer allow extra riders to ride the bus routes. Only registered riders will be allowed on the bus routes. We highly encourage students to car-pool to school due to the high volume of traffic and limited parking during the morning hours.
