Choir News
At ISSMA District Solo Ensemble contest, 6 choir students from LaPorte Middle School received Gold ratings in Group I, which qualified them to compete at State contest. Group I songs must be chosen from a state list to ensure that they are the highest level of difficulty. On Saturday, February 18th, Julianna Chavez, Molly Cooper, Nick Oss, Noah Parmer, Halyn Pumroy, and Camryn Ruiz traveled to Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis to perform their vocal music selections in front of college music professor judges at the ISSMA State Finals. They were among only a handful of middle school students competing at the State level, the vast majority being high school students from across the State of Indiana.
The five soloists, Nick, Camryn, Molly, Noah, and Halyn each received a Gold rating at State, with Molly receiving a perfect score, and Halyn just one point away from perfect. The two ensembles, the Girl’s Barbershop Quartet with Molly, Camryn, Halyn, and Julianna, and the Girl’s Trio with Molly, Camryn, and Julianna each received not only a Gold rating, but both groups also received perfect scores.
Their results were outstanding and showed their amazing level of talent and preparation. Their director Mrs. Davidson said, “All of the soloists and both of our ensembles got rave reviews from their judges, every one of them earned gold medals AND three entries received perfect scores. Very few middle school students make it to State, and it’s practically unheard-of for middle school performers to get those kinds of scores with the difficulty level of the pieces they were performing. I’m thrilled for and proud of our students, and I know their parents feel the same way.” Congratulations to Nick, Noah, Halyn, Julianna, Camryn, and Molly!
