A family Newsletter: Week of October 15

Can you believe the first grading period is almost over??

The start of the school year has flown by and it has been a blast!! Our students continue to amaze me with their positive attitudes about school and their commitment to doing their very best! We have implemented several new things, such as morning circles, ring teams, and trust cards that focus on the family culture at Baxter Elementary and we can really see it making a difference! Our goal each and every day is that students love school and feel empowered over their own learning! Students are stretching beyond their comfort zones and taking risks in order to grow, which is exactly what we strive for. We like to call it failing forward....failure is ok as long as you learn from it and push forward to do your very best!!! It's a great example of real-life situations that you and I both deal with! Gosh, it's exciting and I hope you are excited as well as you watch your student be the very best they can be!!

As always, please reach out if there is something that I can help you with!! Have a great weekend!!

Baxter's Best Boosterthon!!

Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Baxter's Best Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 16th. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on October 25th. With our big goal of raising $25,000 for playground equipment and campus murals, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB! Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.

Donations will go toward playground equipment and campus murals and to the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!

Device Fees

If you have not paid your 2018-2019 device fee, please do so as soon as possible to avoid having to pay full price for any damages that may occur. You can pay at or in the front office. If you are concerned about money, please see Mrs. Pardue in the front office.

Late Students

If your student arrives past 7:45am, a parent or guardian must walk them into the building and check them into school for the day for state reporting purposes. Thank you!

Halloween Safety Tips

October 31st is a time when treat loving goblins, ghosts and scary monsters are out for an evening of fun. Mom and dad need to make sure trick or-treaters of all ages are safe on this special occasion.

  • Look for trick-or-treat options: special community parties at private homes, schools, or churches

  • Make sure costumes are easy to walk in, fire retardant, and visible at night (light colored materials, reflective appliques, etc.)

  • Use face paint or makeup as a safe alternative to masks

  • Talk about street safety (more children 5 to 14 are killed on Halloween than on any other evening of the year)

  • Arm children with flashlights

  • Allow children to visit only homes where you know the residents

  • Accompany children as they trick- or-treat; establish geographic boundaries for older children, as well reasonable curfews

  • Carefully inspect all treats before letting children eat any of their goodies.

  • Halloween is an exciting time for children. Make safety your number one goal!

Notes from Nurse Martin

Hearing and Vision Screenings have been completed.

If your child did not pass either screening you received a phone call (voicemail) from me and a referral form was sent home.

At this time all parents have been notified and referrals sent home.

If you did not hear from me and did not receive a referral, this means your child has passed both hearing and vision screenings.

MISD is looking for RN's, LVN's, EMT's or Paramedics to substitute at any one of our amazing campuses. Please contact for more information!
