JAGSQUAD JOY
- I know your plate is very full and you probably have a very full inbox right now, so I won't take up too much of your time. I just wanted to take a minute to pass on a compliment. Though I'm sure this doesn't surprise you, Mrs. Treadwell is doing an absolutely AMAZING job. She's organized, her expectations are clear, and she's figured out a great balance for the kiddos with the amount of work and meetings and such. I know that there is an enormous amount of work going into that, and I want you to know that we really appreciate her and all the other amazing people at SVE. Thank you! -- parent of a student in Treadwell's R7Online Academy class
- You have the BEST staff at Sunset Valley! Mrs. Lake called to check in on my boy and say how amazing he has been doing. And then, Mrs. Freeborn called this morning and left a message bragging on him as well. She said she was so proud of the progress he has made since last year! It really does make a huge impact on us parents. It reassures me that we made the right decision for him. And it also lets us know he has amazing people helping him succeed at school daily. I've said it since day one of his kindergarten year, the staff at SVE have been fantastic and it has consistently continued. Please pass the praise along to them and let them know they are doing amazing and it doesn't go unnoticed. -- parent of a 1st grader
- Mrs. Westacott is a wonderful addition to SVE! Even in the face of crisis, she is calm and decisive. I love that she's always smiling and willing to help with anything. -- anonymous
- I have loved being here. This is the most welcoming staff and everything from the kids to the duties I helped with...they were all just amazing. I can't wait to come back. -- a Kelly Services one day sub
PANORAMA & SAEBRS SURVEYS
On September 28th, our Panorama student survey window will be opening. Students grades 3-6 will take the survey on their chrome books. The survey results will be continuously updated every 24 hours after the students respond. These surveys support the work of MTSS across the district.
Dr. Hill has provided a Survey Coordinator Training Toolkit and Panorama Survey Guide, that explains the steps to allow teachers to support students with taking the survey. You are also able to review your survey reports from last year or as the data comes in by viewing the Understand and Share Survey Reports. This video and others can be found in the Panorama Academy by clicking on your initials in the upper right corner of your panorama dashboard.
On October 5th, our SAEBRS window will be opening. Only K-3 Teachers will need to complete this survey. Please note these changes and let me know if we need to problem solve any of our timelines to make the deadline of our Data Sort on 10/20.

BIST BITS
- Remember that a boundary is the kindest way to create predictability and trust, and to form connections.
- All teachers should ask themselves...
- Are there students I am redirecting too many times before taking action?
- Are there times of day that I find myself needing to stop/redirect more than other times of the day?
- How can I put supports in place so that I am not responding negatively to the behavior of those students?

RACE FOR THE FUTURE- DETAILS
Date: Saturday, October 10 – Saturday, October 17
Virtual Kick-Off: Saturday, October 10 at 8 a.m.
Conclusion: Saturday, October 17, Midnight
Registrants have from Saturday, Oct. 10 to Saturday, Oct. 17 to complete their 5K…or more. Want to do all your steps at once? Fantastic! Would you rather split up your physical activity? That’s GREAT! Want to do a daily activity? Amazing! Your way. Your location. Your timing. You can simply report/update your activity and steps here when you’re done.
You know how you sometimes wish you could participate in an event on your own timeframe and in your own way? Well, 2020 has finally brought you good fortune!
This year, Race for the Future participants will have one week to complete one or more activities/steps. It takes approximately 6200 steps to be the equivalent of a 5K, but you can select your time and location to run, walk, jog, skip, meander, dance, prancercise (we gotta see this), mow the lawn, clean the house (really?!), play tennis, ride a bike, golf (without a cart…or not!), swim, jump rope, participate in a rousing Frisbee or Ping Pong game….you get the idea! Once you complete your 6200 steps, record them here to automatically be entered in a drawing for some fun prizes.
We are setting a cumulative community goal of 10 Million steps to be completed in a one-week timeframe from Saturday, Oct. 10 to Saturday, Oct. 17. For one low registration cost, you can count as many steps as you take during that week. Then, login and record your steps so we know how close we are to the 10 Million step goal. AND, you can keep recording your exercise steps ALL WEEK LONG! Each time you record new exercise steps, your name will be entered again into a prize drawing. The more steps you take for students, the more chances you have to win prizes.
Need exercise ideas? Check out this exercise/step conversion chart.

LONG TERM SUB USE
Long Term Sub: Mr. Mac (Dennis McCurter)
The district has worked with Kelly Services to secure a permanent sub here at SVE. Dennis McCurter will serve in this capacity for us, and we are so glad to have him as part of our team! Below, you will find a general list of the duties Dennis will cover for us. Please take a moment to peruse these! With students, Dennis will go by Mr. Mac.
* IMPORTANT: If you know you will have an absence (ie vacation or planned absence), please put in for a sub as you normally would. Assume that Dennis is unavailable and reach out to your regulars to fill the absence, or put it in for fulfillment by Kelly.
Here’s how we will use our perm sub:
UNFILLED: absences that were planned and submitted but remain unfilled.
EMERGENCY: absences that were previously unknown or unexpected (ie sudden illness) and there is either no time to fill with a sub or securing a sub is unlikely.
SUBSTITUTION: to swap another sub in the building, allowing the perm sub to cover the classroom and the other sub to do do some of the other items on this list.
FAMILY/PERSONAL: to cover for a teacher if that teacher needed to arrive late/leave early.
SUPERVISION: to assist with the supervision of recess, lunchroom, arrival/dismissal, etc.
CURRICULUM RECOVERY: to provide one-on-one or small group instruction for students across all grades and subjects.
SEB: to provide social/emotional/behavioral support to students in need
ASSESSMENTS: to assist with administering benchmark or progress-monitoring assessments for students
CLERICAL: to assist in the office, workroom, or Library as needed
LONG TERM: as a last resort, we may use our perm sub to cover a long-term absence
OTHER: duties as assigned by the principal
*ALSO IMPORTANT --> If you have a need for our perm sub based on one of the above, please go through Flood/Westacott/Booker to request assistance. Our perm sub is here to serve the building, not just individuals. Please do not request coverage/support from our perm sub unless you have received prior approval from the administration. (EXCEPT in the case of an emergency and admin are unavailable.)
