What's Going On Around Barry!
Soon to be 6th Graders
Our current 5th graders had a meeting with our 6th grade teachers about becoming 6th Graders and what classes they will be in.
Barry Aloha Luau
Our students enjoyed a last Aloha Luau put on by Stuco. To say they had fun dunking their teachers might be an understatement but there were a lot of laughs from students and teachers. It was a great way to say Aloha to Barry.
End Of The Year Projects
Our students have been very busy finishing up last minute school projects for their final grades or just for fun
Welcome Sydney Holland
Our new PPMS Choir Director, Sydney Holland, stopped by today to do some auditions for Honor Choir next year and meet the students! We are excited to have her as part of our staff at PPMS. Our sub, "Grandpa" even joined in the fun and was helping students by giving tips and directions who were practicing for tryouts.
Honor Choir Info for 23-24
We are looking forward to having another Honor Choir next year for our 7th and 8th graders. With the transition to the new choir teacher (and our new school), we can assure you all students who are interested in trying out will have that opportunity here at the end of the year, or at the start of our next year. Many of our students tried out today and we'll have one more chance for them on Tuesday as well.
In case we miss anyone, we'll make sure all students interested have the opportunity to tryout, even if that's in the fall, and we will get their schedules changed appropriately!
Thanks!
Our Character Strong focus this week: Selflessness & Respect

6th & 7th Graders going INTO 7th & 8th Grade
Platte Purchase Cross Country
Who? any PPMS 7th or 8th grader
What? cross country (so running)
When? first practice is the first day of school (August 22)
Why? cross country is a great way to get in shape, hang out with your friends, and become an all around better person
How? Make sure you have a current physical (physicals are good for 2 years) and register with the district: https://plattecountyr3sd-ar.rschooltoday.com/
What next?
If you would like to get a jump start on getting in shape for the season, summer is a great time to get some training in. I would suggest trying to make time to run 3 times a week (with a friend!) and on the other days be active by swimming, riding your bike, hiking, etc. On your running days I would aim for the following in a week…
one longer run at conversational pace
one run that includes some sprinting (Fartlek, flying 30s, etc.)
one run that incorporates hills or something else challenging
We will get together for some group runs starting in July if you’re interested. We will meet at the Y fields at 7am on the following Wednesdays:
July 12
July 19
July 26

PCR3 Treasure Chest Volunteers Needed
Summer is supposed to be a slow time but hunger never rests. The Treasure Chest is a great way to support our PCR-3 families who are disadvantaged by their economic situations. The TC provides food, toiletries and other necessary items, and serves as a place where volunteers can provide assistance in operating the center. Are you looking for a way to support Pirate families? Use this sign up to volunteer. In order to maintain confidentiality, we are only taking adult volunteers 18 or older. Please contact Dr. Beutel with questions at beutelj@platteco.k12.mo.us or 816.858.7001.

Mental Health Month
Nearly 1 in 5 American adults will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year.
46 percent of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition sometime in their life, and half of those people will develop conditions by the age of 14.
Support is Available
Sometimes you just need to talk to someone about your mental health. It’s great when you can reach out to a loved one—but that’s not always possible. Fortunately, warmlines are there to help!
A warmline is a phone number you call to have a conversation with someone who can provide support during hard times. Whether you’re in crisis or just need someone to talk to, a warmline can help. Warmlines are staffed by trained peers who have been through their own mental health struggles and know what it’s like to need help.

End of Year Reminders
Meal Balances
As the end of the school year is fast approaching, we are beginning to close down our books for the current school year. We wanted to let you know of our procedure with regard to student meal accounts.
Negative Balance Notifications at Year-End
Schools are in the process of notifying parents about negative student meal account balances. If your child currently has a negative balance, please clear the funds due by sending cash or a check to the school office or by adding funds to your student's account online through K12PaymentCenter. All of our attendance centers have protocols in place to make the students and parents aware of negative meal balances. If it is found that a student has a negative meal balance at the end of a school year, staff at the buildings will be contacting parents regarding the negative account balance. If the negative meal balance is not resolved after multiple attempts, the district may turn over the unpaid meal charges to a collection agency, per board policy.
Meal Account Balances at Year-End
Meal account balances stay with each student as they move between PCSD schools, grades or classrooms. Year-end balances roll forward into the next school year. Any funds on account at the end of this school year will be available to students when the 2023-2024 school year begins in August. Under no circumstances, will a student be denied a lunch as a result of insufficient funds. However, the District appreciates your cooperation in ensuring that your student maintains a positive account balance at all times. Contact the school building front office for any questions related to student meal account balances.
Health Room Medication Info 🩺👩⚕️
If your child has any medications at school, we would like to ensure that all of them are returned to you. The Platte County R-3 School District medication policy does NOT allow medications to be sent home with a student NOR can they be kept in the Health Room over the summer. Therefore, medications must be picked up by an adult and may be picked up in the Health Room during school hours.
If you would prefer to have the school dispose of your child’s medications at the end of the school year, please notify the school nurse as soon as possible. If your student requires daily medication, you may pick up medications prior to the end of the school year, leaving only the amount of medication needed to complete the term. Medication remaining in the Health Room at 12:00PM on the last day of school, May 26 WILL BE PROPERLY DISPOSED OF BY THE SCHOOL NURSE, AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP AFTER THIS TIME.
