February Skill of the Month: Compassion, Empathy, and Kindness
This February, we're focusing on three important values: Compassion, Empathy, and Kindness. These qualities are really important for our kids as they grow up, helping them become caring and understanding individuals. We want to teach them skills that go beyond just academics and make them good citizens.
We follow the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) State Standards for Washington state, which highlight the importance of compassion, empathy, and kindness in creating a warm and inclusive school atmosphere. These standards encourage kids to understand their own feelings and those of others, show kindness, and get along well with others.
Compassion is about noticing when someone needs help and doing something about it. We want our students to be there for each other and create a supportive environment at school. Through fun activities and discussions, we'll help them learn how to be caring and supportive friends.
Empathy is all about understanding how others feel. This month, teachers will organize activities that help kids see things from different perspectives and appreciate everyone's feelings. By learning to understand others, kids can make better friendships and make our school a happier place.
Kindness is a big focus for us this month. We want to encourage our students to be respectful and kind to one another. Whether it's through small gestures or bigger acts of kindness, we hope to show them how being nice can make a big difference in someone's day.
Our lessons are designed to match the SEL standards of Washington state, teaching kids the importance of compassion, empathy, and kindness in their social and emotional growth. By including these values in our daily routines, we hope to give them the tools they need to make friends, handle challenges, and be good members of our community.
We encourage you to talk about these ideas at home too. Share stories of kindness and talk about how important it is to understand how others feel. Together, we can create a school where compassion, empathy, and kindness are part of everyday life.
Thank you for your support in creating a positive and caring learning environment for our children.

Change of Pick Up Plan?
If you need a change of dismissal plan for your child, please call the office before 2:30. Calls or voicemails left after 2:30 may not get communicated, so please let us know as early as possible! Thank you for your help with this!
Foothills Priority Goal: Attendance!
Attending school on a daily basis is essential as it facilitates students' learning and personal growth. Regular school attendance provides children with the opportunity to grasp new ideas, delve into interesting subjects, and cultivate vital skills. Think of school as a playground for their minds, where friendships are formed, passions are discovered, and groundwork is laid for the future. By consistently participating in class, students not only acquire knowledge but also instill habits that contribute to success in life. So, grab your backpack and head to school – it's the gateway to unlocking a realm of possibilities!
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that your child has the optimal chance to learn and thrive with us!
If your child needs to be out, you can call and leave a message with a reason for the absence 24 hours a day at (360) 829-3355 or email at mclay@whiteriver.wednet.edu You can also use the instruction below to send a remind message.
