Calling all runners, walkers, and joggers!
The Geist 5K race is right around the corner and we are excited to participate in the 11th annual race. Ms. Chandler and Miss Pall will again be the team’s coaches. The HRE team has consistently been the largest school team throughout the last 11 years, winning multiple awards in recognition. There will be a parent call-out meeting at 6:30pm on March 7th.
The team is looking for sponsorship to help keep costs low and provide healthy snacks and hydration to the runners. In return, we will gladly recognize your sponsorship on the back of our t-shirts as we run 3.1 miles around the Geist area. If you or someone you know own a business and are looking for a school sponsorship opportunity to promote healthy choices and an active lifestyle, please contact Ms. Chandler at kchandler@hse.k12.in.us or Miss Pall at japall@hse.k12.in.us by February 28th. Thank you in advance for your consideration!

HRE is getting a Buddy Bench!
Girl Scout Troop 183, made up of former HRE students,
is donating a Buddy Bench to HRE. The Buddy Bench
is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster
friendship on the playground.
The troop could use your help collecting clean caps from bottles, milk jugs, etc. The caps will be taken to a recycling plant in Evansville to be recycled and used to make our buddy bench! Along with collecting lids, they are looking for people who travel to Evansville during the week to help drop them off. If you can help transport caps or for more information please contact Carrie Keys at carrie.keys3@gmail.com or Rachel Askins at rachel.askins@yahoo.com.
Are You Interested in Learning Strategies to Help Meet the Needs of your High Ability Child?
Hamilton Southeastern is pleased to offer a four-session book study on A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children by James T Webb, Janet L. Gore, Edward R. Amend, and Arlene R. DeVries. Meetings follow a discussion format. Walk away with strategies for addressing intensities, perfectionism, sibling issues, and underachievement.
Sessions will be on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 pm at the Administration Building on 13485 Cumberland Road in the West Conference Room. Meeting dates are:
February 13
February 20
February 27
March 6
The book club is limited to twelve participants (one member per family) and fills up quickly.
Participants are welcome to borrow HSE copies of the book for the duration of the book study.
If you would like to join the group, contact Meg Strnat, HSE High Ability Coordinator and book study facilitator, at mstrnat@hse.k12.in.us. Please include contact information (your child’s name, teacher, and school) and whether you would like to borrow the book.
Be Prepared for School Closings and Weather Delays This Winter
The doors to the school will be locked so please do not drop off your children and drive away!! Students will be admitted into the building at 10:45 AM. School will begin at 10:55 AM. No lunch visitors will be allowed on delay days due to an altered schedule.
In cases of extreme weather conditions, the Superintendent of HSE Schools will call a weather day and close all HSE schools. Again, parents will be notified via Skylert and closings will be announced on social media and by local TV stations.
Remember that HSE bus service will run on all school days. We encourage you to have your child ride the provided bus transportation to school so as not to be late -- tardiness due to weather is not excused. If your child attends the Y before/after care, the Y will be open as usual on delay days but will be closed on cancellation days.
Outdoor Recess Happens Year-Round! Remember - please dress your child for the weather
Volunteers & Lunch Visitors Reminder
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their SafeVisitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (it is available in Google Play or via the app store on the iPhone) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
