KDE CATCH Program Happenings
CATCH Update:
We are so proud of all the students who participated in our CATCH poster contest. We had 232 students participate. Students did an excellent job making these posters to kick off this program. Great messages were displayed in the hallways about how to be a CATCH MVP. Prizes were given to 31 students which included games, footballs, toys and various other items. Thanks to all who participated!!
February CATCH Activity….Share Tables:
We are going to be kicking off February with a program called Share Tables. Share Tables is a program where students who purchase a lunch in the cafeteria will have the opportunity to donate any sealed food that they did not eat at lunch. These items will be placed in a bin at the end of their lunch table when they are leaving the cafeteria. We have partnered with Hope Impacts, a charity that helps the homeless in the Katy area. The items donated that would have otherwise been thrown in the trash will help feed the homeless in the community. We are looking forward to starting this program on Feb. 5th.

As you may know, Katy ISD, along with all Texas school districts, is required by state law to have 75,600 minutes of instructional time built into its calendar each year. While the Texas Education Agency (TEA) granted our district a waiver for missed instructional time this past fall as a result of Hurricane Harvey related closures, the District has been informed that waivers will not be provided for last week’s bad weather days.
Unfortunately, our students lost significant instructional time this year. Monday, February 19 is currently designated as a bad weather day and will be used to make up instructional time for all students.
Texas Independence Day Celebration - March 3rd and 4th
“Texas Independence Day Celebration”—presented by H-E-B—is an annual two-day living history celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, 2018 on the 293-acre Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site to commemorate when 59 delegates bravely met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico. After all, there is no better place to celebrate Texas independence than on the very spot “Where Texas Became Texas.”
The free event features live music, food, traditional crafts, musket and cannon firings, Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, the Kids History Zone, “The Birth of a Republic” historical play, Brenham Children’s Chorus, and other commemorative programs. The new museum exhibit titled, “So Others Could Follow: Four Centuries of Maps That Define Texas” will open that weekend. Historical reenactors set up a bonafide 1836 Texas Army camp where visitors can wander freely to learn how the soldiers and their families lived then. Admission fees are waived for the site’s attractions (Independence Hall; Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm) for that weekend celebration. Admission to the grounds, on-site shuttles, and parking are also free. “Texas Independence Day Celebration” is coordinated by the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association. Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is halfway between Houston and Austin at 23400 Park Road 12, Washington, TX, 77880. Arrival To School
We ask that students arrive to campus between 8:00 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Because there is no adult supervision before 8:00 a.m. students may not arrive before that time. The morning car rider drop off is one lane, please do not go around cars in front of you to drop off. If you need to come into the building during arrival please use the crosswalk where a staff member will stop traffic for you to safely cross with your child. Once you have dropped off your child please consider making a right hand turn as you exit the driveway to eliminate backup that is caused from cars having to wait to turn left. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work together to ensure the safety of our Dragons.
