Hembree Highlights
January 29, 2021
Note from Mrs. Smith
This week has been a great week! We are back in the swing and students are learning. Teachers are well into their units for reading and math. In the upcoming week our teachers will be working together for a full day to plan the next unit of math and reading. If you hear your child say that their teacher was out, don't worry! Our teachers are planning together to ensure academics continue to be a focus here at Hembree.
I also wanted to highlight our new water filling stations. We have two of those located in the cafe and outside the gym. Making sure our staff and students stay hydrated and healthy is a top priority for us this year. We know that increased mask wearing might reduce water consumption. We are doing everything we can to support health and wellness.
I wanted to share a new ATTENDANCE procedure that will start next week!
To streamline attendance we are asking that parents email: hsesattendance@fultonschools.org for all absences. Please email both your child's teacher(s) and this attendance email. Please include: Student Name, Student ID, Parent/Guardian Name, Parent/Guardian Phone Number, Date of Absence(s), Reason for Absence, and Doctor Note if applicable. Our data clerk will update Infinite Campus within 48 hours from your parent notification email. We are working to create an easier method for parents to communicate with the school about transportation and attendance.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
FROM FULTON COUNTY SCHOOLS:
Dear Parents or Guardians,
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to remind families and students that candy, desserts, baked goods (store bought/homemade), or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours. Students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for insubordination and all food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s).
Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package. Also, to reduce the interaction of front office staff with visitors, any valentine deliveries will not be accepted.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
Stay Strong! Stay Positive! Stay Well!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith

Exciting News From the Media Center!
The media center has worked out a plan for students to check out library books in person, and we are really looking forward to welcoming our students back to browse our shelves!
- Teachers will be given one weekly time slot for their homeroom students to come and check out books starting the week of February 8th.
- No more than 3 students from the same homeroom will be together in the media center at any time.
- Upon entering the Media Center, children will be asked to use hand sanitizer and given a clean shelf marker to use.
- Students will be permitted to independently browse the shelves to find their books. Upon coming to the checkout counter, they will leave their used shelf marker to be cleaned. Books will be laid on the counter for library staff, and students will step over a few feet to wait for their books to be scanned and handed to them. This will allow distance between them and any other student who is also in line to check out.
- Returned books will be quarantined for a minimum of 3 days before being placed back into circulation.
- If you DO NOT want your child to visit the media center, please notify your child's homeroom teacher.
- Students who have outstanding materials/fines may not be permitted to check out until these items are resolved. Lost/damaged materials may be paid for online here, as we are not able to accept cash or checks at this time. Please include your child's name and homeroom teacher in the notes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Soberanis soberanis@fultonschools.org or Mrs. Shiotelis shiotelis@fultonschools.org in the media center. The virtual library will continue to be available for all students to access our catalog and place books on hold, and we will still deliver those items directly to homeroom teachers to distribute. Remote learners may still use the virtual library and pick up their books at school.

Georgia Pre-K Registration Information
Parents, we know you are eager for GA PK registration information! Please be patient as schools haven’t been given information yet on the registration process for the 21-22 school year. We hope to have this information by February 1st. We will post the information on our school webpage as soon as we know something - https://www.fultonschools.org/hembreespringses.
As in past years, if we have more families apply to register than spaces available we will have a lottery to fill the classes. More information on the Fulton County School GA PK program and required registration documents can be found here https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/4041. In the meantime if you have questions feel free to contact our data clerk/registrar, Lisa Dossey, at 470-254-9458 or dosseyl@fultonschools.org.

The PTA is in search of volunteers to be a part of the Nominating Committee. This committee is responsible for recommending potential candidates for the 2021-2022 PTA Board.
